If you’re cruising down 12th Avenue in Tucson and craving some authentic, homemade Mexican food, Gorditas Las Lupitas is worth a stop. This small business delivers on flavor, even if the portion sizes are a bit more modest than expected. The gorditas were about the size of the palm of my hand. 🖐️
During my visit, I was bummed to find out they were already sold out of the camarón con chile (a good sign it’s popular!), but I dove into a variety of other options. I tried the gordita de rajas con queso, carne con chile colorado, deshebrada de res, and chicharrón en salsa verde. Each one was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to order. The carne con chile colorado stood out—the sauce was flavorful (which also includes nopales) with just the right level of spice. I was offered consume along with my food order as well as green and red salsa options. 🔴🟢
I also ordered a quesadilla de carne con chile colorado, which was packed with rich, slow-cooked flavor and melted cheese—simple but delicious. To wash it all down, I had an horchata and a Jamaica—both refreshing and not overly sweet, which I appreciated. Next time, I’ll order the drinks with light ice.🥤
Customer service was top-notch. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made me feel genuinely welcomed. Despite the made-to-order approach, the food came out quickly, making the experience smooth and satisfying. The outdoor seating is covered by a tarp and the parking is in the same lot. 🚗
The total for everything, including a tip, came to $31.86, which felt fair considering the variety I sampled, though those looking for large portions might leave wanting a little more. 💵
Overall, Gorditas Las Lupitas is a a good option for anyone who values unique flavors, hospitality, and supporting local. Just go early if you have your heart set on a specific item—they sell out quickly. 🍤
