This works great!

Lavender bushes don't last forever. Give them a few years, and they inevitably get thick, woody, and stop putting out as many flowers. It happens to all of them eventually. Most folks try to replace them by taking little green stem cuttings. Then they spend six weeks fussing over tiny pots indoors, misting them, and watching them either rot or dry out. I gave up on that headache a long time ago. There is a much simpler, century-old trick that commercial lavender farms use to turn one tired bush into a dozen brand-new, sturdy plants. You don't have to bring a single thing indoors. You just let the "mother" plant do all the feeding and babysitting for you right there in the garden. All you need is five minutes in the dirt, a clean pocket knife, and a heavy-ish rock. I put the step-by-step details down in the comments. It’s so simple you’ll wonder why anyone bothers with fussy windowsill cuttings anymore.
