As New World Screwworm (NWS) cases pop-up in Texas and New Mexico, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has issued a quarantine order for susceptible (warm-blooded) animals moving into or through the state:

🐂 Any animal infested with or suspected to be infested must be certified to be free of NWS prior to entry
📍 Any animal originating from an infested zone or county must be certified to be free of NWS prior to entry
⚠️ Any animal originating from a location quarantined for NWS cannot be imported until that location has been deemed free of disease
🐕 Dogs and cats shall not be imported from a state with a quarantine area for sale, adoption, fostering, or transfer of ownership

New World Screwworm can infect any warm-blooded animal, but primarily targets livestock.

We finally were able to attempt a rescue of the abandoned emu in Sullivan County. Unfortunately, due to the enclosure the emu easily jumped the fence. The good news is it looks to be in good health and is appropriate size and weight for it's age. It appears to be a male judging by it's behavior. We will attempt another rescue again when it is contained. The emu has a new home on a farm waiting for it where it will receive excellent care. We are asking that no one handles it by it's neck because you will kill it. We also advise those who are thinking of catching and selling it that their efforts will be wasted as this bird has very little market value. Facebook Emu Pet groups are run by folks from Florida who do not understand the environment of the Catskills and The Hudson Valley, NY. This is a tricky rescue in highly wooded terrain. Please help to give this poor emu a chance to live it's life at a safe sanctuary. It has been abandoned for a long time as it's owners moved away and left it behind. Who is abandoning emus in Sullivan County? If you are an emu seller, please be more responsible about who you sell your chicks and eggs to. Other emu sellers try to keep emus in agriculture. How about you?????????

You know that pretty emu egg you always wanted to hatch? The chicks are soooo cute! 15 months later the reality is you have a 100 pound bird with giant sharp claws that needs room to forage, run and probably will need vet care and expensive fences. It has officially reemerged in Texas as of June 3, 2026. Previously eradicated. Remember folks, horses are moving to our area from Texas to auctions where they go to local rescues on a very regular basis. Check wounds on all of your animals. Click link for more info

Hi Folks! Our saffron is farm grown in the Hudson Valley, Ny. It is dried on the farm. It is NOT bought in bulk and repackaged. Please be aware that saffron threads are harvested in the Fall from the Crocus Sativus. This flower is completely different from the Spring Crocus which is inedible.

All of the emus have proper fencing, space to graze, cottages and agricultural tents for shelter. They are cared for 365 days a year, sun up to sundown and are fed Poulin Grain Ratite feed along with fresh seasonal greens. The emus have fresh high quality straw beds every day and a heat source in the coldest weather.
Emu House also has access to the best veterinary care in the area. All emus living at the sanctuary will live the duration of their natural lives. Putting it out there early. There are horses on the farm. That includes a skiddish c**t. Emus too. There are NY State fireworks restrictions. If you or your Air B&B guests are discharging illegal fireworks nearby I will be on the horn with the sheriff all night. NyS has steep illegal fireworks fines. TIA
