Seeking a Local Honey Bee Swarm 🐝
If anyone catches a swarm, or if one of your hives swarms, we would greatly appreciate you reaching out to us.
We have a hive fully prepared and ready to receive bees immediately — including a proper water source, supplemental feeding setup if needed, carefully selected hive placement, and a southern-facing entrance for morning warmth and early activity. We’ve spent dozens of hours researching, speaking with experienced beekeepers, and investing over $1,000 into creating the best possible environment for a healthy colony.
Our small but productive farm was designed with pollinators in mind. Over the past few years we’ve planted:
• 400 feet of pollinator flowers
• A dozen fruit trees (many are 10+ years old)
• A 10,000 sq. ft. vegetable garden
• Large areas of clover across 6 acres of pasture and lawn
We practice beyond-organic farming methods and never use herbicides, pesticides, or synthetic chemicals anywhere on our property. We also do our best to minimize or avoid plastic use whenever possible, both in our personal lives and in our farm. We also have rigorously avoided PFAS, our entire farm is PFAS free. Side Note: If you are unaware of that acronym, we strongly recommend you do some Googling.
After a great deal of research, we chose a BeeBuilt Top Bar Hive. While top bar hives are not the most common style, we were drawn to their simplicity and more natural approach. We appreciate that the bees can build comb naturally without plastic foundation, even if it means a more hands-on experience and less honey production overall. For us, supporting healthy bees, pollination and natural beekeeping practices are far more important than maximizing honey yield.
Our goal is to add a few hives to help pollinate our fruit trees and vegetable crops, support the local bee population, and perhaps enjoy a small amount of honey for personal use or as an ingredient in products made here on the farm.
If you have a swarm available, we can usually respond almost immediately, and certainly within the same day. We are also willing to pay a premium price for a healthy local swarm.
We are looking for swarms within approximately 50 miles of Westminster, MD 21158, as we would prefer to keep transport time short for the wellbeing of the bees.
Please feel free to message anytime, we are standing by ready. If you expect to get a swarm soon, please message us so we can provide a phone number for quicker response.🐝
