Maeve absolutely loves her Crypto Aero Wholefood Horse Feed, which we grind up and mix with sweet feed for an extra tasty dinner. Highly nutritious, oh-so-delicious… and apparently even better when worn all over your face. 🤦‍♀️😂

🐸 The frogs are among us! 🌙

While the chickens are tucked in for the night, a different crowd takes over the yard. Our little makeshift pond comes alive after dark as the frogs emerge to splash, sing, and play beneath the stars.

It’s one of our favorite reminders that the farm never truly sleeps—there’s always someone enjoying the space, even after bedtime. 💚

CountryLiving FarmMoments MarylandFarm LifeOnTheFarm

Or, if you want it a little more playful:

🐔 Chickens: “Goodnight everyone!”

🐸 Frogs: “The party can begin.”

As soon as the hens head to roost, our makeshift pond becomes the hottest nightlife spot on the farm. The frogs come out to play, filling the night air with songs and splashes while the rest of the barnyard sleeps.

The frogs are among us… and honestly, we’re here for it. 🌙💚

🐐 The Great Simba & Nala Diversion Strategy 🐐

If you’ve ever wondered how two tiny goats can outsmart a human… allow us to introduce Simba and Nala.

Simba’s job is simple: be impossibly adorable. He’ll trot right up, lean in for snuggles, demand scratches, and make sure you focus all of your attention on him.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes…

Nala is quietly conducting important investigations into things she definitely shouldn’t be investigating. Feed buckets, gates, flower pots, pockets, wheelbarrows—nothing is safe from her curiosity.

By the time you realize what’s happening, Simba is still cuddled up beside you looking innocent, while Nala has somehow rearranged the farm.

We’re pretty sure they’re running a highly coordinated operation.

❤️ Brother and sister.
❤️ Professional attention seekers.
❤️ Part-time comedians.
❤️ Full-time troublemakers.

And honestly… we wouldn’t have it any other way.

🐐🌿 Dinner Time at Hentastic Gardens! 🌿🐐

Our goats absolutely love this stuff.

Every evening looks about the same around here—goats lined up at the fence waiting for dinner and trying to be first to the feed pans.

We’ve been feeding Crypto Aero Wild Forage and have been really impressed with it. It’s grain free, contains no animal by-products, and is made from ingredients we actually recognize. That’s important to us because we try to keep everything on our farm as natural as possible.

What says the most isn’t the label, though—it’s how excited the animals get when it’s feeding time.

We feed Crypto Aero products to our goats, chickens, and cattle because we truly believe in the quality of the feed. It’s one of those products we’ve come to trust over the years, and we’re happy to support companies that put real thought into animal nutrition.

Now if you’ll excuse us, dinner is being served and apparently we’re moving too slowly. 🐐😂

Seeking a Local Honey Bee Swarm 🐝

If anyone catches a swarm, or if one of your hives swarms, we would greatly appreciate you reaching out to us.

We have a hive fully prepared and ready to receive bees immediately — including a proper water source, supplemental feeding setup if needed, carefully selected hive placement, and a southern-facing entrance for morning warmth and early activity. We’ve spent dozens of hours researching, speaking with experienced beekeepers, and investing over $1,000 into creating the best possible environment for a healthy colony.

Our small but productive farm was designed with pollinators in mind. Over the past few years we’ve planted:
• 400 feet of pollinator flowers
• A dozen fruit trees (many are 10+ years old)
• A 10,000 sq. ft. vegetable garden
• Large areas of clover across 6 acres of pasture and lawn

We practice beyond-organic farming methods and never use herbicides, pesticides, or synthetic chemicals anywhere on our property. We also do our best to minimize or avoid plastic use whenever possible, both in our personal lives and in our farm. We also have rigorously avoided PFAS, our entire farm is PFAS free. Side Note: If you are unaware of that acronym, we strongly recommend you do some Googling.

After a great deal of research, we chose a BeeBuilt Top Bar Hive. While top bar hives are not the most common style, we were drawn to their simplicity and more natural approach. We appreciate that the bees can build comb naturally without plastic foundation, even if it means a more hands-on experience and less honey production overall. For us, supporting healthy bees, pollination and natural beekeeping practices are far more important than maximizing honey yield.

Our goal is to add a few hives to help pollinate our fruit trees and vegetable crops, support the local bee population, and perhaps enjoy a small amount of honey for personal use or as an ingredient in products made here on the farm.

If you have a swarm available, we can usually respond almost immediately, and certainly within the same day. We are also willing to pay a premium price for a healthy local swarm.

We are looking for swarms within approximately 50 miles of Westminster, MD 21158, as we would prefer to keep transport time short for the wellbeing of the bees.

Please feel free to message anytime, we are standing by ready. If you expect to get a swarm soon, please message us so we can provide a phone number for quicker response.🐝

We just added a top bar hive to our little farm and are excited to begin our beekeeping journey. We chose a top bar hive because it allows the bees to build their colony in a more natural way, without plastic foundations, and because our main goal isn’t large honey production.

Our focus is on supporting pollinators, helping improve pollination for our vegetable gardens and fruit crops, and doing our small part to support healthy bee populations. Any honey we collect (which will likely be very little) would mainly be for personal use or for use in some of the products we make here on the farm.

We are currently looking for a local beekeeper near Westminster, MD who may be able to provide a colony of survivor-stock bees for our hive. Since we are new to beekeeping, we’re hoping to learn from someone experienced. Ideally, we were wondering if it might be possible for us to provide a couple of top bars to a beekeeper so the bees could begin drawing comb on them, and then transfer those bars into our hive for transport back to our farm.

If that’s not a practical approach, we are absolutely open to suggestions and guidance from experienced beekeepers. We’re eager to learn and appreciate any advice or help. Thanks so much!

🐔 Meanwhile at Hentastic Gardens… 🐔

Apparently word spread through the flock that there was a possible hawk scare… because the second I sat down outside, I was immediately swarmed by the feathered neighborhood watch committee. 😂

One jumped in my lap.
Then another.
Then another.
And apparently my shoulder is now premium chicken parking.

Nothing makes you feel more loved than watching an entire flock come sprinting out of the woods to check on you like:
“OH GOOD… the snack lady survived.” 🥹🐓

This right here is why we love the chicken life.
Not just farm animals… family with feathers. ❤️

At Hentastic Gardens, our chickens are spoiled, loved, ridiculously social, and clearly have zero respect for personal space. 😅🌿🥚

🐔 BREAKING NEWS FROM HENTASTIC GARDENS:
The cows are not the only ones causing dinner time drama around here. 😅

Every evening, our flock gathers at the coop door like a group of impatient customers waiting for a restaurant to open… all because they KNOW the mealworms are coming. Look at them all congregating like it’s the social event of the season. 😂

Some stare politely.
Some scream demands.
Some attempt emotional manipulation.
And at least one is convinced standing closest to the door guarantees extra snacks. 🪱

These spoiled hens are where this entire wild and crazy Hentastic Gardens journey began, and honestly… they still run the place. ❤️🐓

The cows may wear their dinner on their faces, but the chickens perfected dinner drama long before them. 😆
