Daisies & Christmas in July
Dear Dinner Family,
I planted daisies this week.
In all my years of being a homeowner, I've never once planted daisies — and to be exact, that's 24 years gone by. Who would've thought? Daisies are my favorite flower. I've planted black-eyed Susans, dianthus, lilacs, rose of Sharon, and lily of the valley growing along my shed. But not a single daisy in sight.
While my hands were deep in the soil planting my favorite flower, I asked myself: why do we wait to enjoy the thing we love most? Before I knew it, the whole process became a spiritual act. I reflected on the past, and what else I might be putting off that I love. More often than not, the excuses we give are invalid — I don't have time, I don't have the money, I don't have the right resources. So there I was, with my daisy plants, garden hoe, watering can, and bare feet, making a New Year's resolution mid summer: Do the thing you love. Don't wait for tomorrow, or 24 years.
Speaking of waiting — July is right around the corner, which means our Christmas Cake will be on the shelf. Yes, Christmas in July! This cake is one of a kind. As the cakes cool, we poke holes through them and drizzle caramel and sweetened condensed milk over the top, letting it soak down into the cake until it's the most moist, delicious goodness you won't be able to resist. Then we top it with Cool Whip (the no-high-fructose-corn-syrup kind) and sprinkle on pieces of Heath bar.
Its so yummy!
July also brings 4th of July celebrations, and we are here to help you with your backyard party — Call in, order online or just stop by the shop for our Mac n' Cheese in the 9x13 size, Ham & Cheese Sliders, and more.
