🐄 Farm Life Isn't Always Pretty 🐄

Today was one of those days.

The kind of day that reminds you farming is full of learning experiences, unexpected challenges, sore muscles and long hours.

Today our girls went through the chute as we began preparations for our embryo program. It was their first time through our new working system and let's just say there were a few moments where both the cattle and the people were learning together.

Some days on the farm go exactly as planned.

Some days humble you.

But at the end of the day, the girls are settled, the work is done and we're one step closer to the goals we have for our herd.

Farming isn't about having perfect days.

It's about showing up again tomorrow.

And that's exactly what we'll do.

🐄 Exciting things happening at Blue Ridge Farm! 🐄

Today we got our new working system and safer cattle chute set up and ready to go!

As our herd continues to grow, having equipment that helps us work cattle more safely and efficiently is incredibly important, not only for us, but for the cattle as well. Our goal has always been to provide the best care possible while reducing stress on both livestock and handlers.

Tomorrow we'll be working 16 of our girls as we begin preparations for our embryo program, and we're excited to take this next step for our herd.

A huge thank you to everyone who has helped make improvements like this possible. Farming is never a one person job, and we're grateful for the support, hard work, and encouragement along the way.

Prayers for a smooth day tomorrow, calm cattle, and successful results in the weeks ahead! ❤️🐄🙏

Well... if anyone asks if we got our workout in today, the answer is definitely YES!😅

Today's family workout included:

🐄 Chasing a calf around and around and around...
👶 Mom carrying a 30-pound toddler.
🚪 Wrestling gates.
💪 Working calf feet.
🏃 Running around the barn multiple times!
😮‍💨 And enough cardio to last us until next week!

John called me needing help. When I got to the barn, we had a calf out and what started as a normal evening quickly turned into an all-hands-on-deck farm adventure.

John, Josiah, and I all worked together to get her caught and safely back where she belonged. By the time we were done, my arms were jelly, my legs were jelly, supper may have gotten a little crispy, and everyone was ready to call it a day. 😂

The calf is caught.
The toddler is safe.
The family survived.

And we're officially counting this as today's workout. 🤣🐄💪

Just another evening on the farm. 🤍🌾

Here at Blue Ridge Farm, Memorial Day is not just another long weekend.

While many gather for cookouts, celebrations and time with family, for so many others this day carries a much heavier meaning.

Today is not simply about enjoying freedom, it is about remembering the brave men and women who gave everything so that freedom could exist.

It is about honoring the soldiers who never made it home. The fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and friends whose families carry their sacrifice every single day.

As we walk these fields and enjoy the blessings God has given us, we are deeply reminded that freedom has never been free!

It breaks our hearts how easily sacrifice can be forgotten in a busy world. The cost was far too great for us to treat this day lightly.

Today, we pause in gratitude and remembrance.

We pray for every Gold Star family and every military family carrying loss today. We pray for comfort, peace and the strength only God can give.

There are empty chairs that should be filled. Conversations that should still be happening. Memories that should still be being made.

So today, at Blue Ridge Farm, we choose remembrance.
We choose gratitude.
We choose honor.

May we never forget the price that was paid for the freedoms we are blessed to live each day.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
John 15:13 🇺🇸

From our family at Blue Ridge Farm, we are praying for every family carrying loss today and always.

Prayers for rain would be so appreciated. 🌧️🙏🏻

Our farm is so dry right now, and it’s honestly scary. Our first cutting of hay didn’t do well at all because we’ve had so little rain. The fields are thirsty, the ground is dry, and we’re desperately needing a good soaking rain.

Farming is one of the greatest reminders that so much is out of our hands. We can work hard, prepare, plant, and do all we know to do… but in the end, we have to trust God to provide what we cannot.

Tonight we’re praying for slow, steady rain to soak deep into these fields and bring life back to this land.

If you’re the praying kind, please say a prayer for rain, not just for us, but for all the farmers watching their fields and looking to the sky right now.

“He covers the heavens with clouds, prepares rain for the earth, and makes grass to grow upon the mountains.”
Psalm 147:8 🤎

Last night was one of those simple moments I’ll treasure forever… planting seed potatoes with our boys as the sun was setting over the farm.

There’s something special about little hands helping plant what they’ll one day help harvest. These are the moments that remind us what this life is all about—faith, family, hard work, and teaching our boys where their blessings come from.

Planting seeds in the ground and praying we’re planting even stronger seeds in their hearts—of gratitude, patience, and love for the life God has given us.

Thankful for warmer evenings, fresh dirt, little helping hands, and the blessing of raising our boys right here on the farm. 🌱🤎

“Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.”
— Psalm 126:5 ✨

This was pulled straight out of our cattle feed this morning.

This trash was thrown into our hay field sometime last year, baled up with our hay, and then ended up right back in our cattle feed when we fed this morning. Thankfully, I caught it before one of our cows did.

This is why littering in the country is such a big deal. What gets tossed from a vehicle doesn’t just disappear. It ends up in fields, gets baled into hay, and can be eaten by livestock before we ever see it.

The same goes for balloons. Once they deflate and fall into pastures, calves often mistake them for food — and sadly, many don’t survive it.

Please, if you’re driving through farm country, think twice before tossing anything out your window.
What looks like “just trash” can cost an animal its life. 🌾🐄🤍

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms out there — the ones raising babies, bottle-feeding calves, tending gardens, cooking meals, saying prayers, wiping tears and pouring their hearts into the people and places they love.

Farm moms know the beauty of hard work, early mornings, muddy boots and loving deeply even on the busiest days. The love and sacrifice of a mother helps grow strong families, just like steady hands help grow a strong farm.

Today we celebrate the women who nurture life in every form and make home the sweetest place to be.

Proverbs 31:28 "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her"

Happy Mother’s Day from our farm to yours! 🌸💙🐄🌾

Sometimes you don’t realize how much you rely on something until it’s gone…💧

We’re on day 2 with no water after our well pump went out, and let me tell you — with a farm full of animals, that’s no small thing. It’s been a humbling reminder of just how important the “little” things really are.

John is heading straight from getting off his school bus to pick up a new pump to get it fixed. Even more, we are beyond grateful for family stepping in — hauling water, filling troughs for the cattle and coming alongside us to help pull the old pump and get the new one in.

This farm life isn’t always easy, but it sure is a blessing — especially when you have people who show up when it matters most.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1

Praying we’re back up and running soon, and holding a whole lot of gratitude in the middle of it all. 💧🙏
