So Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, we had a failure of the heating system for an extended period of time. I was in at 6:45 am Wednesday morning the inside temp was 24.5 degrees. The pictures tell the whole story. Nothing survived the night. Very, very difficult day. I pulled all 5 hydroponic pumps, drained them out, blew out the plumbing lines and left. Farming anything is a fight in New England. But we're not done by any stretch. We'll be up and running again. At this point we have a couple of issues against us. First we are almost at the shortest length of daylight which determines growth rates. Second is the heating costs in winter. Normally, product moves out every week, cash flow comes in. Now, however it will be at least 6 weeks minimum before we can generate any money.
So the most likely scenario at this point is to start seedlings and plants off site in a "grow room" situation. We're playing with dates and numbers to get a realistic opening date. Our guess is somewhere around April 1st to maybe the 15th. Daylight will be much stronger then and we can push the heat higher for less cost.
Gail and I want to thank all of our loyal customers and friends for your support. You folks are the best. We'll update you with thoughts, pictures, and ideas.
Thanks to all
