Euterpe Farms - Ojai Valley Native Plants and Music Ojai Valley Native Plants and Music. We are an educator and private supplier of Ojai Valley native plant varietals for landscaping and education.

Euterpe Farms is a 5-acre native plant farm located in the heart of the Ojai Valley overlooking the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy's Ventura River Preserve and the Los Padres National Forest. The Farm is a monarch butterfly sanctuary and has the largest concentration of native milkweed in the area. There is an honor system "tienda" or roadside stand that sometimes has a sample of some special native plants, and a popular water spigot where you can get a free drink of water for you and your pet, or fill a bottle for a modest donation. There is a coin slot on the stone water fountain and an information bulletin board. We strongly support music and the arts, both through Farm events and our recording studio, Euterpe Studios…also the recording home for the farm hosts and music group “Smitty and Julija.” Monthly, in the warm months, we provide the venue for the Euterpe Farms Concert Series, a free live local music event at sunset at the Tienda Stage under the oaks by the windmill. Also one of the most sadistically frustrating to establish.

Here's what we've learned at Euterpe Farms about Romneya coulteri.

In nature, their seeds are stimulated to germination by chemicals released in natural fires. However, attempting to grow by seed is rarely successful, so don’t even try.

The plants you buy in the store for $30 are a waste of money. What they do is take a one-inch root cutting, treat it with a growth hormone, plant it in rooting medium, and get it to flower in a pot so people will buy it. However, it is not really a viable plant, it is just living off the starch in the cutting. You’ll plant it in the garden, and it’ll die and you’ll blame yourself.

Well, you can blame yourself, but don’t buy any more.
