The Story at Rusty Creek Homestead
Kevin and Carol Nisly began their journey in 2022 at their homestead tucked away in the heart of Southeast Portage County, Ohio, where the idea of Rusty Creek Coffee was born.
At Rusty Creek, they are all about authenticity and freshness in their coffee. Frustrated with how secretive big coffee producers were about their processes, Kevin’s wife Carol inspired (forced) Kevin to take matters into his own hands. Starting with nothing more than a humble popcorn popper, advice from their coffee-savvy uncles Merle and Marv, and a batch of raw beans, they set off on their coffee roasting adventure.
As their passion grew, so did their operations. Kevin crafted a unique roasting machine out of a Whirly Pop kettle, a Bosch drill, a grilling thermocouple, and a Shop-Vac powered bean cooler. This DIY spirit didn’t just refine their roasting technique—it defined it, allowing them to expand further and eventually upgrade to a small state-of-the-art roaster.
Over time, they shared their coffee with friends and family and soon realized there was a demand for fresh, pure coffee beans! This inspired their commitment to deliver not just great small batch coffee, but coffee that’s ultra fresh and made specifically the way you want it.
At Rusty Creek Coffee, they cherish their Roast to Order” service. This personalized approach lets you pick from the world’s finest beans, choose your perfect roast level, and decide between whole bean or ground coffee. Staying true to their roots, they handwrite each customer’s name on their simple brown coffee bags, adding a personal touch to every order. ✍️☕️
