pened the doors to Denizens Brewing Co. in 2014 as the first production brewery in Montgomery County, MD. A place to enjoy high quality, locally made craft beer and hard seltzer in a warm and welcoming space that is inclusive of everyone. Craft beer doesn’t need to be exclusive, and that is why we started this company. Everyone has a seat at our table. Everyone matters. And everyone deserves delicious craft beer made right in their own neighborhood by people who live in their neighborhood. We made history serving that first pint in Silver Spring—having fought hard to change prohibition era laws that not only enabled us to open for business, but we also created a whole new business model in Montgomery County that built the foundation for the area's craft beer scene that we all know and love today. Denizens is the reason you can find so much local craft beer in all your favorite bars, restaurants, and package stores in the county. OG status. Throughout the years we’ve been carefully crafting great beer that offers something for everyone—from pilsners to hazy IPAs, barrel aged stouts to mix-fermentation sours, and even hard seltzers. We’ve built a loyal and passionate following, and we’ve hosted unforgettable events as a third space for the community. We’ve also proudly created jobs and provided a significant boost to the local economy.
2019 was an expansion year for us as we opened our second brewery location in Riverdale Park—serving as our Production House & Taproom complete with a full scale testing lab. This expansion has allowed our beers to be found on many more shelves and on tap throughout Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia. You can expect our product to always be fresh, reliable, and delicious. We’re proud of our community brewery as well as each and every milestone along the way. We live by a few simple beliefs:

Drinking beer close to where it’s brewed gives us a better product and does right by the local economy and environment. Making beer is our passion, and sharing our product with you is at the heart of what we do. In addition to brewing our beer on premise, we carry Maryland products whenever possible, including locally produced wine, mead, cider, and liquor. Everyone has a right to fresh, local craft beer
There’s no craft beer type; craft beer belongs to all of us. ALL OF US. Did you know that back in 2014, access to local, craft beer was not possible in some parts of Maryland? We made that change by working with government and community leaders to remove unnecessary, prohibition-era barriers, enabling an expansion in local beer production and distribution. You deserve it. Every brewery should be a gathering place for the community
We welcome you to visit us in Silver Spring and Riverdale Park. We've celebrated birthdays and anniversaries, held important community dialogue and events, and we've gotten to know our guests’ four legged friends. From partnering with the University of Maryland to grow yeast strains, to giving our used grains to Maryland farmers, to hosting fundraisers for local non-profits, we are a community-based brewery.
