Today is Earth Day, and we hope you’re planning to celebrate by getting your hands in the soil! 🌎🌱

As you lock in for the growing season, it can be helpful to take a step back and evaluate the health of your soil—particularly if your fields have suffered disease and/or pest pressures, experienced low productivity, or if plants have expressed off-coloring or abnormal growth. Just like our carefully tended plants, the soil also needs support in order to produce those healthy, bountiful crops your customers are dreaming about. This reminder comes from High Mowing Seeds where I purchase many of my seeds yes it starts with the soil! ENJOY!

One effective way to help soils establish and maintain the healthy biological communities that stabilize nutrients, store carbon, and promote productivity is the introduction of cover crops.

Front yard Crocus In March 2026, most locations in the Northern Hemisphere experience a significant, rapid increase in daylight, gaining roughly 40 to over 100 minutes of total daylight by month’s end. Northern states gain more (80–100+ mins), while southern areas gain around 40–60 minutes. Additionally, Daylight Saving Time begins on March 8, shifting one hour of daylight to the evening.
Total Daylight Gain: Approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes to 1 hour and 40 minutes (70–100+ minutes).
Daily Increase: The amount of daylight increases by about 2.5 to 3 minutes each day throughout the month.
Time Shift: On Sunday, March 8, 2026, clocks “spring forward” one hour.
Why? The Earth’s tilt towards the sun causes this rapid increase, which is the most dramatic of any month.
The sun sets significantly later in the evening by March 31 compared to March 1.

A great phenomena appeared in the sky last night a one of a kind rainbow. I have never seen such a thing in February possibly due to our warm winter and I maintain that when you witness a beautiful rainbow, it makes life worth living. Happy Valentines!

SOLSTICE
The winter solstice is upon us, marking the shortest day and longest night of the year.
People across the country have already faced multiple blankets of white snow where they live, but the winter solstice marks the first official day of winter. Utah has experienced the fourth warmest winter of all time. Average temperatures are 10° warmer.
The solstice also marks the start of the Pagan holiday, Yule, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. The holiday is thought to celebrate the sun’s return and the land’s rebirth as days begin to get longer after the longest night of the year.
The solstice is celebrated by many as a time of rebirth and change. Many cultures throughout human history have observed the shift in season as an important symbol, and people of different faiths continue to recognize it today.

HALLOWEEN And nothing in between ~ Our neighbors go all out on the trick or treats!

Halloween originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, celebrated over 2,000 years ago to mark the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. The Celts believed the boundary between the living and the dead blurred on this night, so they lit bonfires and wore costumes to ward off spirits. The holiday evolved over centuries, with the Catholic Church Christianizing it as All Saints’ Day(November 1), and the evening before becoming known as All Hallows’ Eve, which eventually became “Halloween”.  🎃👻🕷️

On September 22, 2025, the autumnal equinox (or fall equinox) occurs in the Northern Hemisphere, marking the astronomical start of fall. Additionally, September 22 is observed as World Rose Day, National White Chocolate Day, National Elephant Appreciation Day, and Hobbit Day, among other holidays and historical events. Also, my garden harvest has completely happened for the summer. I was very fortunate to have grown storage crops this year potatoes onions garlic, Winter squash ~ can’t wait to start using them at the end of this month into October November, and possibly well into the Winter!
