It’s almost deer season! 🦌

We hunt out of necessity and family tradition. D and I both grew up hunting deer here in South Georgia.

We haven’t purchased beef from the grocery store in almost 10 years. We process the deer ourselves to save money, and we know exactly how we like it. 🥩 Yes, the equipment can be pricey to start, but it pays off itself after you process your first few deer. We know we’re getting as much meat off the bone as possible, and taking the extra time for quality control for the best flavor. Often times the game taste comes from silver skin or glands left in the meat.

I think coffee out of my new mug from Podunk Pottery just tastes better 😋

How perfect is this mug for a chicken lady!? 🐓

I also learned something new from the artist while purchasing this mug (and some other pieces as gifts for friends and family). This particular style of pottery decoration is called “Sgraffito”, which originates from the Italian word “to scratch”. The potter carves the decoration out of the top layer of the mug. This makes for a more time consuming project, but the contrast and texture it adds is well worth it in my opinion. This is one of my new favorite mugs! ☕️

Fret not locals, I have just restocked our egg fridge at the G.W. & Son Honey Farms LLC self-serve honey stand with fresh, salmonella free eggs! Conveniently open 24/7, located at 4837 Mt. Zion Road, Valdosta, Ga. Cash and electronic payments are accepted by both businesses, so stop by and get some fresh eggs and raw local honey! 🤝🥚🍯

Keep in mind our fresh eggs are good in the fridge for about 2 months (not that they would last you that long 😉), so it might be a good idea to stock up before the eggs are gone from the grocery store shelves or the prices go up. We will NOT be inflating our egg prices during this time, $5 per dozen $7 per 18 pack. 🫶

Yesterday we were honored to be guest speakers at the Rooted Futures Ag Day Even hosted by our friends Wallace Family Homestead . 🐮🐓🐇👨‍🌾🌱

We shared about what we do on our homestead so that others could be informed, encouraged, and inspired to start their own journey. These events are incredibly important, not only for educational purposes, but to help build and support the agricultural community. To get people back in touch to where food comes from, connect with the soil and animals, and each other. We look forward to attending this event for years to follow! 🌾
