September. One of the best months of the whole year in my opinion. Back in our school groove, Coyote football has returned, birthdays and wedding anniversaries... and pizza gigs! Lots of ‘em.

Starting this Friday at XIX Brewing Company!

When the kids were little, Grandma Deb decided they would learn the proper term for eggplant... “aubergine.” To this day, they still use it sometimes. Once again, my Dad’s garden is bursting and we’ve been tasked with ensuring none of the aubergine goes to waste. We’ll be roasting it with herbs (also from the garden) and pairing it with ‘Nduja, a smoky/spicy sausage from the Calabria region of Southern Italy.

We’re going to be coming in hot for Friday’s service, so we had to call in reinforcements.

This week it’s all about the crust… I mean it’s kinda always about that, but on Friday we’re dressing her up with “2 Chicky Ladies Reaper Chive Dusting Power,” handcrafted by Spicy Turntable a fellow local small business that is doing all kinds of interesting things and growing their own peppers to boot! We bought one of practically everything when we spotted them at the Vermillion Area Farmers Market a few weeks ago. Give them a follow!

Come grab a 🍕 and a 🍺 this Friday at XIX Brewing Company starting at 5:30 PM and stick around for National Park Trivia hosted by Friends of the Missouri National Recreational River. And for goodness sakes, protect our treasured river and beloved national parks at all costs!

Everyone needs an auntie like Bec Jones. She’d do anything for us, including move to South Dakota (which she is doing very soon!) She’s visiting for the weekend to celebrate her birthday so we’re pulling out another favorite from last year – the Joojeh. Our love letter to the place Bec spent much of her childhood and home of our favorite cuisine in the whole wide world. 🇮🇷 We love you Bec! Happy birthday!

A peek into my dad’s beautiful garden. We’re so lucky to reap all the benefits and do none of the work (it’s a lot of work). This summer he planted extra (extra, extra) basil so we have plenty for our pies. Last year’s bountiful harvest led to one of my favorite specials of all time which is returning this week - the Summertime. Our scratchmade ricotta, razor thin lemon slices, shallot, a pinch of chili flakes, toasty sesame seeds, and of course a generous helping of the freshest basil grown right here in Clay County. We’ll be at XIX Brewing Company on Friday night starting at 5:30!

July. We survived.🫠

Huge thanks to everyone who got a Notaburger this month and to Vermillion, SD for organizing an epic Burger Battle. Shout out to Jena Jones and Summer for all the help despite absolutely brutal temperatures. And of course our village of grandparents for keeping the children alive… and getting them hooked on Leave it to Beaver. Looking forward to a slightly more chill August (I think?)
