The first annual Adirondack Garlic Festival at Kate Mt Park in Vermontville was a roaring success! Drizzly weather did little to dampen spirits as festival-goers sampled garlic specialties, took in a presentation, joined an activity, or listened to one of our talented local bands.
Topping the list of the many, many people who made this possible are our sponsors: Adk Party Music, Adk Solar, ANCA, Franklin County Government Office of Economic Development & Tourism, Lyon Valley Farm, NCPR, Stewart’s Shops, and individual sponsors Lee and Nancy Keet, and Gail Huston.
A special thanks goes to the Town of Franklin for jumping in right from the start to support and embrace this community event. Their collaboration and offer of resources was invaluable.
Thank you to Ralph Childs of Childstock Farm for bringing and assembling a high quality performance stage, and to the Stender family and the Smiths for the loan of the large audience tents.
We were able to offer a variety of presentations and demos with no charge, thanks to the in-kind donations of Craig Bailey, Cathy Hohmeyer, Paul Smith’s College culinary students, Crystal Stewart-Couens and Carol Vossler.
A core of volunteers organized by Caroline Hambley stepped up to help run the event, directing traffic, setting up tents, and dishing ice cream. Thank you to Kaydence Allen, Nancy Bernstein, Claude Boivin, Mark Daviau, Lena Dedivitis, Lindy Ellis, Shir Filler, Gail Huston, Travis Jeffrey, Jordanna Mallach, Erica Neufeld, Tamara Peary, Jesse Peckham, Grace Pegley, Claire Smith, Kate Tesler, Nicole Valenzi, and everyone else who pitched in on Sunday.
The festival is the brainchild of the Tri-Lakes Regional Farmers, a group of local producers sharing knowledge, time, and marketing to support farming in our area. We’re thrilled that it went so well, and we plan to bring it back next fall. Thank you to all who came out to celebrate.
