We lost our retired livestock guardian dog Tag this past weekend. While he was 11 and definitely aging, it still was quite sudden for the whole family. He had spent years past his retirement still acting like a big puppy. We’re comforted knowing he’s buried out in his field with Karma, his frenemy sheep whose rock headstone he often peed on when we let him out. Our lion-dog is gone but he will be remembered with much love and laughter as his memorable antics.

Our two buck kids from this spring are looking for herds to join! I’m continuously impressed with how they look and their friendly attitudes, like their sire. Golden Shepherd Fern, their litter mate sister, is one of my best looking juniors this year. If you’re looking for a fall herd sire these two bucks will serve you well!

This pairing I’ve had planned since before this doe hit the ground is Bitterroot Swiss Lilac x Bitterroot GJ Al Cappuccino. One of the joys of working with Bitterroot Dairy Goats is getting my first opportunity to do a linebreeding on a goat I feel will do great things for my herd; Agape’s Prize Lil Debutante (EEEV 91). This line breeding has a COI of 8% on Agape’s Prize dairy goats. Primarily, Lil Debutante’s son Agape’s Prize Gold Jester who sired both Al and Lilac’s dam Charm. But it’s the does that I’m looking at on this linebreeding and I am greatly encouraged by the quality I see. Especially in Lilac, who already is impressing me with her body structure!
We are hoping to breed for April 2027. Polled is possible.

Freedom! The sheep are now out in the field to graze through the rest of the season. They’re somehow less skittish than when we got them, believe it or not.

Two years ago, this hen (the darker one) was hatched on our farm with 12 other chicks. Today she’s now raising her own clutch of barnyard chicks!

Our next pairing is Bitterroot Swiss Lupine x 4AcreWoods Spud-Tacular! Lupine is a very impressive doeling when it comes to potential body capacity. Her dam has impressive milk production and a great flat rump that I was really looking to improving in my herd! Her sire is Better Wayz Swiss Knight who brings his dam’s, SG Better Wayz SwissMiss Carabear (VEEE92), awesome genetics. My hope is to improve her teat size and placement with Spud’s influence while maintaining an impressive level of dairy capability!
Kids will be due April 2027.

With all our recent additions it feels like a true barnyard going out every morning!

A very exciting pairing we’re doing is Goat Forest Farm Peachy Queen x Bitterroot GJ Al Cappuccino. Peach is an amazing addition with Wolfivan Kentucky Bourbon on her sire’s side and an incredible udder and sweet attitude from her dam, MaaAcres Dairy Goats Bambi (GGEG 85). Al Cappuccino’s sire is Agape’s Prize Gold Jester (Agape’s Prize Goldie Cox x Agape’s Prize Lil Debutante (EEEV 91)). Peach is slotted to be my primary show goat and my hope is that this pairing will produce awesome performance goats!
Kids will be due April 2027. Moonspots and polled are possible.

My most anticipated first freshener is our very own Golden Shepherd Fern! This was our only 2026 doe kid and man does she impress me. Longest prefresh teats like her sire’s dam and impressive body structure like her dam. We are crossing her with Bitterroot GJ Al Cappuccino whose dam has better udder structure, medial, and teat placement than Fern’s dam. Al’s sire is descended from great Agape’s Prize genetics including Agape’s Prize Lil Debutante (VEEE91) and ADGA 2022 National Champion Agape’s Prize French Quarter (EEEE 92). Absolutely beautiful does that add to Al’s flair. This pairing will be amazing!
Kids will be due April 2027. Moonspots will be possible.
