Sometimes growth looks like standing on something old and weathered, stretching toward what’s just out of reach.

You don’t have to have everything figured out. You don’t have to know exactly where the next step will take you. Just keep reaching. Keep growing. Keep being curious about what’s waiting a little higher than where you are today.

Even the smallest steps can carry you somewhere beautiful.

Meet Vagabond.

We recently found out that both Rendezvous and Gallivant are does, so I decided it was time to add a buck to the group.

His name had to fit with theirs, and Vagabond just felt right. I love how all three names have that same wandering, storybook kind of feel to them.

I want to thank Dixie Dairy Nigerians for this awesome Otter Rex Rabbit. He is incredibly sweet and tame. As most of you know I have a cage free rabbitry. I never know when introducing a new rabbit how they will get along or if they will be accepted. The first few days Gallivant and Rendezvous chased Vagabond around . I thought they were going to chase him off. But he has officially settled and is learning the routine. He comes right to us and let's us pick him up and hand feed him. He will be a great addition to our farm ♡

The Jack Russell pups are 3 months old! Time does fly when you're raising pups! I have really enjoyed this time in getting to know each individual puppy. They have been working on crate training and have been started on rats. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree! We are now looking for suitable homes ♡ 1 F and 3 M.

✅️ Raised on Puppy Culture
✅️ Vet checked and Puppy shots
✅️ Introduced to rats

Getting the perimeter of the existing fence pulled back together. Got to secure it up, run top barbed wire , and patch some down fence . Then it will be on the the next project. I've got to build a Shelter.

New paddock going up this weekend. I'm so excited for this expansion. Want to guess who's new home this will be?

My husband, Dean, made a video of how his Quail cage is set up.

Meet his Jumbo White Coturnix Quail project

These little birds may be small, but they are mighty useful on the farm! Jumbo White Coturnix are fast-growing, productive quail known for their beautiful white feathers, calm nature, and excellent purpose as both egg and meat birds. Jumbo White Coturnix Quail are basically the “big white meat birds” of the Coturnix quail world. They are Coturnix japonica, the same species as regular Coturnix quail, but bred larger and with mostly white plumage. People often call them Jumbo Whites, Texas A&M quail, or White Coturnix, though not every white bird is truly jumbo.

They are one of the easiest small livestock animals to raise, making them a wonderful choice for homesteads, backyard farms, and anyone interested in raising their own food on a smaller scale.

Coturnix quail mature quickly, start laying young, and don’t require a huge amount of space. Their eggs are tiny little treasures, rich and delicious, and the birds themselves are a great option for sustainable farm-raised meat.

We are excited to be adding Jumbo White Coturnix Quail here at Millbjörn Farm and learning more as we go. Dean has been working on their setup, including an 8x8 hoop coop for his local blood line , and we are still deciding what bedding will work best for the ground.

We would love to hear from others who raise quail! What bedding has worked best for you in a ground pen or hoop coop setup?

Coming soon, we hope to offer Jumbo White Coturnix quail, eggs, and meat from our farm!

My husband, Dean, made a video for the farm page today introducing our Coturnix quail!

He’s showing the 8x8 hoop coop he built for them and talking through the setup as we get everything ready. We are still deciding what bedding or ground cover will work best in the coop. We would love to hear what has worked well for others raising quail on the ground.

Dean also has a 4 tier stacked quail cage completely set up with 5 hens and one c**k per cage. In this system he is breeding some of the fancier colors and Jumbo whites. His goal is to produce healthy meaty birds with large eggs.

We are excited to start offering Coturnix quail here at Millbjörn Farm, including live quail, eating eggs, hatching eggs, and meat as availability allows.

Our next hatch date is Thursday! We bought some eggs from Hatch Haus Hatchery. This way we can keep the genetics diversified. After this hatch we have set 24 of our own eggs that should hatch in 2 weeks.

I never knew I would be a quail person , but after helping him raise his first batch of hatchlings I am hooked!
These little birds are such a fun addition to the farm, and I can’t wait to see his project grow.
