We just received a few steers that were recently weaned from their mothers last week. They are released into a pen with an older steer for a few hours to bond with an older "buddy" before being released to roam. This way they will be feel comfortable staying with the existing herd, instead of breaking out on their own.
They will graze and fatten up on our ranch for the next two years while living a charmed life.

Beef prices continue to surge but there are higher quality and more economical local alternatives.

"Prices are more expensive than ever. The average cost for ground beef is now averaging a record nearly $7 a pound. The basic reason is straightforward enough. The US cattle herd is the smallest it’s been in decades, squeezed by drought and high feed costs. Demand for beef, meanwhile, has held up."

Buying in bulk directly from a local producer can increase the beef quality at a significant saving to factory farmed/store bought beef.
Our cattle are fattening up nicely on all the growth from our recent spring rains and are in excellent shape for our upcoming deliveries. We have a couple remaining grass-finished beef shares available for a Saturday June 20th delivery in the greater Austin metro area

San Saba River Flooding Update from River Hawk Ranch
The July 4th floods have devastated lives and livelihoods throughout the Texas Hill Country area and my prayers go out to impacted families and communities.
River Hawk Ranch borders the San Saba River at the CR 214 bridge near the town of Voca. The July 4th flooding brought the river in this area to a historic level never seen in the 100 years of existing records.

The good news is that I'm unaware of any lost life along the San Saba and all our cattle are fine and the flooding should have no significant impact on our operations or cattle deliveries.

The bad news is many people were impacted including losses of homes. A good portion of our fields bordering the river were underwater and we experienced significant damage to fencing. I returned to Austin for the weekend as I was physically and mentally exhausted from the impacts and many long days mending fencing.

Please do what you can to help those in need during these challenging times.

Including pictures of the the impacts at our ranch after the water receded and a wonderful rainbow that arose in the following days.
