Moonlight Melons

Moonlight Melons Truly local watermelons, grown in Walla Walla! Thanks for your support!

We are a family-run business, specializing in unique varieties of watermelon, raising them on a farm seven miles west of Walla Walla. Because we maintain a small patch we can pick selectively....you can know when you buy a melon from us that it is FRESH and it is RIPE. We carefully select melons that are perfectly vine-ripened and deliver them immediately to their destination market.

2026 is our

23rd season. We've developed a loyal group of supporters, and thank you for looking beyond the name recognition of huge melon farms and getting to know your local grower. We are actively engaged in other careers and activities, thus the "Moonlight" in our name - we have been known to pick by moonlight in order to deliver you the freshest product possible. Our melons are available mid-July to mid-September at Downtown Walla Walla Farmer's Market, Klicker Berries & Antiques, Frog Hollow Farm, Andy's Market, A.R.Teal's Produce, and Walla Walla Food Hub.

It is really 100% for sure that the melon season is over when the disc comes out and chops everything that’s left into tiny bits.

THANK YOU to all who supported our “truly local” melon business this year. It sounds so cliche but it’s the truth - it’s our customers who make us want to come back and do this again.

We’ve had a bit of a love/hate relationship with the “twins” this summer. We’d prefer it if they’d stay out of the melon patch, but darn they are cute.

Not long until the end of season and they get free rein of the all-you-can-eat melon buffet. We’ve got a week or so of harvesting still ahead - get your melons while you still can!

You are looking at our supply of our classic picnic melons for tomorrow’s How to pick a good one? Not all melon varieties are the same, but here are some of the things we look for in thie “Big Reds”.

1. Size. These average 20 - 25 lbs when they are ready. 2. Color. They should not be a bright green. They should be a little lighter in color and not super shiny. 3. Bee tracks and vibe scars. Don’t be afraid to choose the ugly melon. 4. Yellow belly. A nice yellow spot where this melon rested on the ground. 5. Ribs. A striped melon should have little ridges on the stripes. 6. Juice. And finally, sometimes there is literally juice dripping fe the stem. When you see this, you know you’ve found a melon that’s going to be DELISH.
