👑🐝 Meet one of the queens behind next year’s honey! 🍯

Earlier this year, she was just a tiny larva that I selected and raised into a queen. Now here she is, surrounded by her loyal retinue.

If all goes according to plan, next season she’ll be the mother of tens of thousands of bees—all working together to build a strong colony and, hopefully, make plenty of honey. 🍯

I had a great time this past weekend attending Kirk Webster’s open house. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn, connect with fellow beekeepers, and see firsthand how Kirk manages his apiary.

The bees have been busy! 🐝🍯

With the recent warm weather, the bees have been taking full advantage of the abundant blooms around Vermont. They're bringing in nectar, and it's starting to show with beautiful frames of freshly capped honey like this one.

There's still plenty of summer left, but it's always exciting to see the first frames of capped honey. If the weather continues to cooperate, we're looking forward to a great honey harvest and can't wait to share this year's crop with you!

🐝🌸 Floral Source Spotlight: Apple Blossoms (Malus domestica)

Apple blossoms provide both nectar and pollen, helping colonies continue building strength during peak spring growth.

This bloom is especially valuable because it supports strong brood rearing right as colonies are expanding quickly.

Most of this forage goes directly into colony growth—but it also helps set the stage for the early honey flow.

🐝🌸 Floral Source Spotlight: Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)

One of the first widespread spring food sources for honey bees here in Vermont.

Dandelions provide both nectar and high-quality pollen, helping colonies build strength quickly after winter and supporting early brood rearing.

This bloom is especially important during spring buildup, when other forage sources are still limited.

Most of this forage is used by the bees themselves—but it plays a key role in getting the season off to a strong start.

Yesterday we hosted the final session of the Vermont Beekeepers Association Beginner Beekeeping Class at our apiary. We had a great turnout, beautiful weather, and a chance to spend time working hives together.

It was great spending time in the hives and hearing the excitement from new beekeepers who already have their bees for the season. Looking forward to seeing how everyone’s colonies grow this year!
