A huge thank you to Kansas Farm Food Connection for the opportunity to share more about who we are & some of the things we are working towards!

When farmers talk about soil sampling, they usually mean collecting a small amount from their field for analysis. They don’t mean eating it. But that’s exactly what Ethan Sylvester did to catch the attention of a fellow student in a soils class at Kansas State University. “I was trying to impr...

Today marks a milestone for Sylvester Farming Co - the one year anniversary of beginning to transition our first field to USDA Certified Organic.

When we started Sylvester Farming Co, we spent a lot of time talking about what we wanted our legacy to be. We wanted to focus on being good stewards of the land God has entrusted to us and building healthier, stronger soils that will benefit future generations.

A year into this process and we've had successes and failures... but we are enjoying finding ways to work with nature. The impact of using no synthetic chemicals was almost immediate - an alfalfa field filled with hundreds of butterflies, honey bees... and weeds 🙃

After the alfalfa hay was baled and removed today, we spread composted manure before seeding triticale and crimson clover into the field. The triticale will help fill in thinner areas of the alfalfa and naturally compete with weeds, while the crimson clover will provide more forage for pollinators.

Many of you found our page because of the sunflower patch, and we're grateful you're here. As the flowers fade for the season, we'd love to share more of what makes our farm unique and why we're passionate about regenerative agriculture, healthy soils, and leaving the land better than we found it.

And here's something you may not know... our sunflower field is also in transition to organic! This means the sunflowers have not been sprayed with any synthetic chemicals. 🌻

While most of what we farm is still conventional, we are excited to see what these organic transition fields can do!

The countdown to Sunflower Day has begun! 🌻

In honor of Sunflower Day on August 1, we’re excited to offer something sweet! 🍯

For this week only, we’ll have a limited number of SHoney Farm 2 oz Honey Bears available for $3 each. 🧸

As you wander through the sunflower field, keep an eye out for the busy SHoney Bees hard at work pollinating the blooms. 🐝🌻

Grab a honey bear while supplies last—they’ll only be available now through August 2!

If you’ve been out to the field recently, you’ve probably noticed SHoney Farm Bees hard at work. The bees help pollinate the flowers while also collecting nectar & pollen to take back to their hives. Nature is so cool! 🐝🌻
