Yesterday and last night's snowfall was a surprise to the alpacas. Curly rushed out as usual, expecting the food to be by the fence. To his surprise, he was up to his hocks in snow! He just turned right around and went back in the barn. Bindi, the oldest of my boys seems to be the only one adventurous enough to come outside! Food, water, and treats are all inside the barn. We knew these storms were coming! One more is still on its way.

Prince Patrick had a wonderful training day today. We worked on the "walk" command and the "stop" command. We walked over to the new barn, almost up to the back door (he didn't like the feeling of the unfamiliar cement) and back into the old barn. He stood still while I undid his halter, and didn't throw his head around at all. I rubbed his ears, neck, and chin, and I even got a nibble kiss. He let my grandkids pet him and feed him some pellets. He is one super cool alpaca. Love that boy!

Little Prince Patrick had his first formal halter training session. He was a little reluctant at first, but once he found out he would get a treat if he followed me, he got the hang of it fast! Watch out for this one, he is going to make one great herdsire!

These are the first two eggs laid by my chickens! I'm getting two every day, so I know at least two of my hens are producing. The best part was that these were found by my grandson. He was so exited to go look for eggs every day!

We have hummingbirds gracing our ranch! There are at least 8-10 hummers using the 4 feeders I have put out for them. This feeder is right by the kitchen window, and it seems to be the one they like to visit the best.

I had a special Mother's Day gift from my little cria, Prince. He's been following me around when I clean out the barn, and today he let me touch his back and neck without springing in the air and running away. Ah, the joy of alpacas!

So sad to report the loss of one of our sweet alpacas, Aria. She had some medical issues from birth that finally got the better of her. Rest in peace, and frolic without pain or problems over the Rainbow Bridge. She is the little dark brown one on the right.

My very first cria, Harmony. She is now 4 years old and a new mom this year to her son, Crescendo. She looked so tiny, then she stood up and we couldn't believe how long her legs were! She was up and nursing in no time. Her mom, Melody is a wonderfully attentive and excellent mother.
