Spent the afternoon at my favorite plant walk spot with Bo Brown, author of Foraging the Ozarks and Foraging the Central Grasslands and it was a delight as always to watch him do his thing. Bo is a wealth of knowledge and I'm so grateful every time I spend time with him because I always learn something new. We ended the afternoon with a foraged salad, fermented wild kimchi, marinated yucca leaves (think wild artichoke hearts without the toughness), and a few other goodies. My heart and my cup are full.

This spring, herbicide drift reached all forty acres of our farm.

It came from outside our fences — a chemical called Grazon, carried on the wind. We didn’t know it was coming. We didn’t spray it. But the land felt it.

It hit the wild herbs first — the ones I’ve studied, taught, and shared for years. Then the trees. The high tunnel. The garden. The pasture. All of it, touched in one way or another.

That’s why I’ve paused foraging this season.

Not because the land isn’t alive. Not because it’s unsafe to visit. But because consuming anything from this soil right now doesn’t sit right in my bones.

What is still here:
🪵 Peaceful campsites under the stars
🌿 Wild plant ID walks (no harvesting)
🔥 Campfire tea and garden-grown food (this one is new and exciting)
🐈 Curious cats, sunrise gobbles, and quiet joy
💚 A farm rooted in resilience, not perfection

I didn’t expect to tell this story. But I’m here for it now — because it’s part of what makes this place real.

If you’ve been longing for stillness, presence, and a deep breath far from the noise... we’re still here. And we’d love to host you.

Ever wanted to learn foraging from one of the best?

Bo Brown—author of Foraging the Ozarks and Foraging the Central Grasslands—is leading a foraging walk in Warrensburg on Saturday, June 15th at 1 PM, and there are a few spots left.

We’ll spend the afternoon wandering, learning, tasting, and finishing with a wild-foraged salad made from what we’ve gathered. If you’ve ever wondered what do I actually do with the stuff I find out there?—this is your chance to find out.

✨ Cost is $40 (pay when you arrive)
✨ Only 16 spots total
✨ We do need a head count ahead of time to plan the food
✨ Great Father’s Day gift idea—or just a good excuse to get outside and do something different

Message me if you want in. Should be a good time, and I’m really looking forward to it.

Something a little special for Father’s Day this year...

I’m excited to share that Bo Brown—yes, the Bo Brown, author of Foraging the Ozarks and Foraging the Central Grasslands—will be joining us in Warrensburg on Saturday, June 15th for an afternoon foraging walk.

If you’ve been curious about wild edibles or just want to hang out in the woods with people who love plants as much as you do, this is going to be a good one. We’ll wrap things up with a wild-foraged salad to showcase just how simple (and tasty) wild food can be when it’s fresh and well-used.

🕐 1 PM start
💵 $40 per person (pay day-of)
📍 Warrensburg, MO
👥 Only 16 spots available

If you’re thinking this would make a great gift for a dad in your life—you’re absolutely right. It’s a chance to spend time together, learn something new, and enjoy food straight from the land. But honestly, you don’t need to be a dad to sign up. Come because you love this stuff. I know I do.

Message me to claim your spot—we’ll need a head count to plan the salad. Hope to see a few familiar faces in the woods that day.

While the world outside is serving up a mud smoothie, our high tunnel is tossing up something far more delicious—salad bouquets! Each one is a vibrant mix of crisp lettuce, tasty chard, and a sprinkle of edible flowers, wild greens, and fragrant herbs. Rain or shine, we’re growing the freshest, most flavorful garnishes to brighten your plate (and your mood). Who needs flowers when you can eat the bouquet?

So many foraged and homegrown components in this salad! Lettuce from the high tunnel, dandelion leaves and flowers, redbud flowers, violets, spring beauty leaves and flowers, water leaf, sweet cicely, black walnuts. Topped off with some elderberry juice gifted to me by a friend, a bit of apple cider vinegar, some sesame oil, celery salt from another friend's garden, and some chicken and a soft boiled egg to finish it off. So delicious and so much variety!
