That was nerve racking. Just walked out of first meeting ever w/ USTR. We scheduled the meeting to discuss how tariffs harm the wine industry. Hopefully our efforts make a difference for future decisions.

Primitivo, a grape varietal widely planted in Southern Italy, is genetically identical to Zinfandel.

The varietal originated in Croatia under the name Tribidrag. Thanks to Professor Carol Meredith, now we know 😉

Kevin Rapp attended an event for Napa Valley Vintners last night in Washington, DC. He was encouraged to hear they are actively lobbying against tariffs; including some very important meetings scheduled for today.

A solid day at Vinexpo NY yesterday. We tasted through some interesting wines, particularly from Emilia Romagna, including a native varietal to the region, Albana, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albana_(grape)

We also tasted through several Lambruscos and believe this is a style of wine that has the potential to continue to grow in relevance in the United States and beyond.

Thanks again to Steve Melchiskey and all of the other VinExpoNY Advisory Board Members for a memorable and productive day.

The wine made from the grape, Albana di Romagna, was first awarded DOCG status (Denominazione Origine Controllata e Garantita) in 1987. The grape produces deeply colored wines and could be related to Greco di Tufo.[1]
