🌱 From Cacao to Hardwood: Growing Our Vision at Finca Chocolat Belize 🌳

Farm life never rests, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! After successfully planting 15,000+ cacao trees from this year’s nursery, we’re now moving onto our hardwoods – adding 5,000+ Cordia Alliodora (Salmwood) trees from our very own onsite nursery.

Why is this year special? It’s our first year cultivating all hardwood trees right here on the farm, and we’re thrilled with the results. These trees are already 2-3x the size of those we sourced in previous years at the same age – and we can’t wait to see them thrive in their new environment.

As we work to restore previously cleared land, these hardwoods are helping us regenerate healthy, shaded areas across Finca Chocolat. In just a few years, these spaces will provide the perfect canopy for future cacao trees – a true labor of love and sustainability. 🌍

A glimpse into a part of the farm that few get to see without putting on their boots and heading out for a good walk. This area was planted with cacao under our existing canopy in 2022. The young cacao loves the partial shade and benefits from the leaf litter of the trees surrounding it. In 2 more years, these trees will have tripled in size and begun to produce cacao.
