Earliest harvest EVER!!

We are now starting to pick our Albariño vines. With the BRIX° hovering in the high 21's and low 22's, this vintage is coming in about 2 weeks earlier than usual. The mid-April freeze was devastating to a lot of the early growth, but luckily we pruned late and the secondary buds were able to push through and carry the vintage. The above normal heat waves during July and early August accounted for a surge in ripening; hoping the pH and acidity levels balance out the juice. I guess climate change is a real phenomenon.

Cheers to the Harvest Season.

Our Tawny Port Style wine, made from Virginia Norton Grapes, is really starting to come into its own on year 2. The nutty aromas with slight cacao and flavors of rich caramel and fig really shine when paired with the creamy . Looking forward to bottling this vintage in the next year or so.

At the present moment, Albariño, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère and Petit Verdot all look to have suffered a 20-25% loss of this year's crop due to the freeze from a few weeks ago.
🍇
The Merlot, fortunately, has not experienced any loss at all, although the vines are behind schedule over the previous vintages. Well, like the saying goes, better late harvest than never.

The growing season started out beautifully, only to be hit with freezing nighttime temperatures. Unfortunately, crop loss will be about 20%. Always facing challenges in the vineyard.
