🔄 Let’s run this back ⤵️

🗣️November marks three years since we released The Bison Project, the three-part investigative podcast about Howard University University’s soccer’s rise, fall—and rise again.

🗣️The podcast has made the listening rounds around the world—and that’s great. But the ultimate goal remains: redemption for Coach Lincoln Phillips and his 1971 Howard University Men’s Soccer Bison soccer team—and the return of their national championship🏆title, unjustly stripped by the NCAA.

🗣️If you’ve already listened—thank you. If you haven’t, pull up a chair. (And maybe grab a tissue.)

📍Even 10 years after the making of the ESPN documentary “Redemption Song,” I’m still kicking myself for not including this short sound bite from Dr. Carl E. Anderson, who didn’t play on those dominant Howard University University soccer teams of the 1970s — his role was actually more important.

📍As the longtime director of student affairs at Howard — hired in 1969 — Dr. Anderson was Coach Lincoln Phillips’ go-to for … everything. Money for meals for the players? Done. Another scholarship to fill a void? Handled. Play intermediary between Coach and the athletic director? No problem.

📍To play all of those positions, you had to have backbone. Grit. Dr. Anderson had them all.

📍His answer to the question — “How were those Howard University Men’s Soccer teams perceived by the greater, mostly white establishment as they made their way through a less-than-friendly college soccer ecosystem?” — tells you all you need to know about the man he was.

📍His quote is still fire — even 10 years later — and it’s timely that we’re giving Dr. Anderson some shine after he celebrated his 92nd🎉birthday in recent days.

📍Happy birthday, Dr. Anderson. And thank you for championing people and the cause.✊🏽

⭕️ No, no, no … isn’t leaving . But we’re reposting this clip from his appearance on the just over a year ago — on his 22nd anniversary at the Worldwide Leader — when he talked about wishing he had kept a diary of all the “highlights” from his amazing career.
⭕️ And … it got us thinking: Jay makes a great point about the importance of pausing and appreciating the little moments that ultimately make up the big picture.
⭕️ If you haven’t heard the full conversation, “press play” on your next drive or walk. You’ll be motivated.

Enjoy your day, good people (and thank you, Jay).
