Hey everybody!

Wanted to share a little bit about life here on our family farm. We have crops, cattle and pigs - of course - but we also raise some bunnies and sheep.

My dad’s been raising sheep since he was a kid on the farm. They’re pretty good at keeping the pastures “mowed” for us. 🐑

And the bunnies - well, my kids show those as well as some pigs through 4H and our County Fair 🐇

Raising animals of any kind means a lot of work, but around here we think of it as a labor of love. Chores are a part of .

And don’t worry - our four-legged friends don’t spend all their time in the pens. They’re just inside for the winter. They get plenty of outdoor time in the warmer months!

Hey everybody, happy Friday from Big Country! I did a little more cookin out on the farm this week, grillin up some of our farm-raised pork steaks. It was 16 degrees outside and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get out and grill! This is another one of our favorite techniques and a great way to make that pork super tender.

I like to start with rubbing our pork steaks with our pork rub (or any good bbq rub for pork) then throw em on for a few hours of indirect heat over cherry and hickory wood, then transfer to a pan with a little apple juice to steam and simmer. Then I add some halved, seasoned yukon gold potatoes and toss it all back on the grill. Let me tell you - supper was yummy! The pork fell right off the bone!

How do you cook your pork steaks? If you've got a secret cooking or grilling method you love - give me a shout! I'm always lookin to try something new!

Hey everybody! Always have the grill rolling at our house or at least, every chance we get!

Last night I cooked another one of our favorites, smoked chuck roast - a super simple recipe and technique that always turns out great! This is how we like to do them!

We love to find ways to cook our farm-raised beef and pork, especially when it brings out the naturally rich flavors of the meat like this recipe does. So feel free to drop your recipe or technique, I’d love to try it or add it to our recipe book of ones to try!

Had a long but fun weekend last weekend continuing our family tradition of making deer sausage at the farm with friends and famliy. We shared lots of laughs and made lots of sausage!
