When we formed the non-profit organization, we were a group of 12 people who had contact with Samson, who saw that there was something truly special about these big (mostly) black horses. Only after we rescued Samson did we begin to realize that there were very few of the Shires left. It is generally accepted that there are fewer than 2000 registered Shires in the entire world (ALBC.usa.org)
So we began talking about setting up a non-profit organization solely for the benefit of the Shires and the many people whose lives will be richer just for having the chance to know one of these most magnificent creatures.
Our long term goals are to "own" our horses, currently we lease our Shires at no cost the non-profit from one of our members. We are also hoping to move to a larger farm to better educate the public about the Shire horse and have more room to raise foals, increasing the total number of Shires.
