When we first started making soap, we wanted something simple, useful, and as close to home as we could reasonably make it with the primary focus on the high quality milk from our own goats. And as someone who has been through organic certification for vegetable production, I have a deep appreciation for organic agriculture and what that label represents.

But over the years, I’ve also come to believe that sustainability is bigger than a label. Could we make our soap with 100% certified-organic oils? Absolutely. But that doesn’t automatically make it the highest quality or the most sustainable recipe for our particular farm.

You also won’t find a lot of extras in our recipe. Every ingredient has a purpose. Every additional ingredient is another thing to source, another variable to manage, and potentially another ingredient that someone may not tolerate well.

We believe sustainability is about knowing where your ingredients come from, using what your community already produces, choosing quality and freshness over USDA certifications, making things to last, and keeping the recipe simple enough that you can stand behind every part of it.

With the season changing it’s a perfect time to reintroduce the Plain and Unscented Goat’s Milk Bar; the basic bar that started it all and made our family “goats milk soap believers.”

We took a little family road trip to Minnesota to pick up a 14-head goat milking stanchion and stand this morning! Not a sentence we would have written a few years ago. 😂
We came back home with a useful piece of equipment and also a growing appreciation for the community we have at home and are finding along the way.

It’s Ladies Night in Clarksville! Find us inside the AmVets building with our goat’s milk soaps and lotions on Main Street from 4:30-7:30pm. There are lots of fun and unique local, women-focused/owned businesses inside, trailers outside, food trucks and our hosts KJ Design around the corner from the mural.
