Why are we saying the hard things—the things people don’t like to say out loud about owning beef & dairy cattle?
Because at some point, staying quiet stopped sitting right with us.
Between Ben and I, we have 40+ years of cattle ownership, beef and dairy. For a long time, I shared little glimpses of our days: chores, milk pails, pasture walks. The pretty parts. The relatable parts.
And then I watched an influencer, someone that sold resources for keeping a family milk cow, make a grave, foundational husbandry error.
It cost them their calf.
And nearly their cow.
I remember looking at Ben and saying, quietly but firmly:
If this is what social media is offering as “education” for cattle… I can’t be shallow in this space anymore.
Because cattle don’t get grace for bad information.
They pay for it with their bodies. Sometimes with their lives
So we chose a different lane
Not louder
Not trendier
Not easier
But deeper
We teach foundations because foundations are what keep livestock alive.
We mentor because context matters.
We answer hundreds of questions because nuance can’t be summarized in a reel.
And we will keep saying, lovingly but clearly: social media is not enough for you to create a foundation in livestock husbandry.
Most advice online is missing the context that actually matters
Without that, even well-meaning advice becomes dangerous
We’re not here to shame
We’re not here to posture
We’re here because decades of experience carry a responsibility
If you own cattle or want to, you deserve knowledge, not noise
And your animals deserve more than oversimplified soundbites
This is why we say the hard things. Because loving cattle well requires more than good intentions. It requires understanding. Ready to place importance on the understanding? comment COURSE
