We were lucky. Our home was safe. Our friends and family made it through alive. Our area bounced back relatively quickly (though there are certainly remnants you can find with little effort).
Two years ago I was mucking my way through the damage and debris. The two years since have not been effortless, at all. It’s been an uphill battle for so many, and it some days, it’s hard to just keep going.
So many thoughts and emotions are trying to push their way out of my brain. I can’t help but wonder what life would be like if we were still in Frog Level. We were building something really beautiful, you know?
I still visit the coffee shop and brewery. I still walk past empty buildings and washed out shops. I still sit by the creek that swept all of that away in an instant and greet it kindly, but with a bit of sadness and a lot of respect
Sitting with these thoughts today, while reeling from the last couple of weeks of truly incredible experiences is uh… a very specific yet unnameable feeling. I’m sure the Germans have a word for it. I do not
My heart is full of love, and support, and gratitude, and ache, and sadness, and anger, and exhaustion, and hope
Again, so many people had it worse. It feels so tone deaf to be like “I miss my shop but life is good in this moment”, but I remember back when we were fighting for basic communication, the good stories kept us going
If you can, share something good today 💕
