One of the hardest things about farming is having an unpredictable business partnerā€”the weather.

This partner has its own agenda regardless of how much time, money, or effort you put into your farm, and unlike most business partnershipsā€¦thereā€™s no getting out of it. šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

Our farm sits in a little cold-pocket microclimate that freezes when nearby areas do not. Soooo lucky. šŸ™ƒ

Several weeks ago, we knew low temps were coming, so we covered our dahlia cuttings with AG-30 frost cloth. Even so, we sustained considerable damage. This damage is shown in the first three photos.

I cut off the blackened leaves and stems, then ignored them because, honestly, I was too frustrated to even look their direction.

Well, wouldnā€™t you know it... out several hundred severely damaged cuttings, I lost only eight?!

Everything else is slowly but surely making a comebackā€”even plants that looked like nothing more than lifeless sticks. The other photos in this post are proof of this!

Thereā€™s something kinda beautiful about a plantā€™s determination to keep growing despite the odds. šŸŒ±

225 already in, 72 today, 88 more next week and then Iā€™m officially done getting all my steps for the day from moving trays and trays of cuttings in and out of my house to harden them off.Ā Ā šŸƒā€ā™€ļøšŸŒ±
