Rooted in the hills of Laguna Verde, Huila, Nelson Cruz’s coffee story is one shaped by persistence, family, and innovation. What began as cattle land in Pitalito was gradually transformed into La Planada - a thriving coffee farm built through decades of careful cultivation, soil development, and a generational commitment to quality.
This release also marks the first year of Tectonic Coffee’s direct trade ambitions with the Cruz family, beginning a relationship centered on transparency, sustainability, and long-term collaboration at origin.
At La Planada, tradition and technical innovation work side by side. Alongside a meticulous 48-hour fermentation and careful washed processing, the Cruz family utilizes the Ecowasher system - a modern washing technology designed to dramatically reduce water and energy consumption while improving consistency and optimizing washing times compared to traditional processing methods.
The result is a beautifully refined Castillo lot with notes of white florals, ripe yellow plum, and delicate white tea. Elegant and structured, the cup reflects both the natural character of Huila and the Cruz family’s thoughtful approach to modern coffee production. Read more on our blog!
