Since 2016, the IRC New Roots Program in Sacramento has supported countless farmers and gardeners to grow food for their local communities.
Through agricultural education and food security programs, New Roots focused on land access, training, and business development for beginner farmers - and our community and neighbors across Sacramento benefitted from a strengthened local foods network and improved access to the many harvests of seasonal, fresh, and affordable foods for their families.
After 10 years, the IRC New Roots Program in Sacramento is coming to a close. Our farm and programs have been impacted by the devastating and ongoing cuts in public funding that supported programs like ours. We are deeply saddened that this season is coming to an end. Yet we remain grateful for all the love and support from our community and partners who worked with our farmers, shopped at our markets, and volunteered at our farm over the years.
We hope that the impact of our program lives on in everyone - farmers, community members, and volunteers - who were connected to the New Roots Farm.
We hope the spirit of New Roots will grow and benefit the community here and everywhere - where all are welcome - to be at home in a new land, plant their roots, and grow - and for more local food networks where farmers and families can nourish themselves toward a better future.
