It’s official 🌟
I am happy to volunteer my time for 4H and show testing. I can also test backyard flocks and breeders at a small fee. If anyone is need of a tester, get ahold of me 😊 I will also begin donating breeds listed on the Livestock Conservancy to local 4H kids interested in breed conservation and education starting next year.

I Spy some weekend photos from the grow-out pen.

I always enjoy seeing the adolescents start to fully feather out. Soon, the ducks will be ready to move into the grown-up pens. I’m still keeping an eye on the turkeys and chickens to decide who stays and who goes. All birds are moved into correct pens once old enough to be with the adults. 🥰

Days specifically set to remember or celebrate parents can be difficult for a lot of people. If today is difficult for you or someone you know, you’re not alone. Your feelings are valid and it’s okay to be hurting. 💕

Celebrate you for working hard to get where you are today. Celebrate you for all that you have done and continue to strive for. Celebrate the lives that you have touched and help shape in a positive way.

Counting down the days to begin offering eggs 🥚 and chicks 🐥 from my Chocolate & Black Mottled Silkie group again. I will post updates once I’m back at it! Here’s some cute photos of them enjoying a cloudy Michigan day. Nothing is currently available. I’m just simply sharing some pictures of my breeding pen, which includes showgirls, satins and silkies.

Training LGD Poppie is going well so far! Here’s a little update:

🌟The Process:
- Starting her out on the suspended lead line between multiple chicken coops on my 8 acres of land to get her acclimated to the birds and learn property boundaries.
- Training her to use the lean-to shelter during rain and heat.
- Praising and rewarding alerting behaviors for predators or noise on the property.
- Redirecting jumping on humans.
- Redirecting interest away from chickens when showing playful puppy behavior.

🌟Next steps:
- Free-range select chicken breed (trusted large fowl breed) when I can supervise and keep Poppie remaining on lead line in case need for redirecting interest away from chickens.
-Start with short amount of time 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 1.5 hour, 2 hours, increasing over one week.
-Praise and reward her ignoring behavior towards chickens and give constant attention.
-Continue spending time supervising when free-ranging select breed as needed.

Training an LGD puppy on poultry is not easy. It does take time. LGDs are not naturally trained to do poultry protection. Let’s face it: chickens are fun to play with and puppies have puppy behaviors. You must be willing to put in the work! The time and effort are worth it in the end to protect your flock. Poppie is showing fantastic promise, already alerting to the smells and sounds of the Michigan woods. Follow Poppie on her journey!
