Wanna help name some emu chicks? They've started hatching and I've always used food names for livestock. This go round is all about the cheese. Lea with Southern Biophilliac Urban Farm has picked Swiss for red band, and I've got Smoky Cheddar for orange band. Blue, purple, pink and green all need names ( there may also be two more if the last two eggs hatch). Share your ideas in the comments!

I mentioned in passing this morning to a couple of really good friends that I was only three followers away from 200. While this may seem like a baby milestone to some, it is a huge one to me. For the most part I am known under Jen (Jordan) in the quail groups, not many see a covey full life. It means more to me than many of you know that you have chosen to follow this little glimpse of our farmsteading life! So shout out and thank you to Southern Biophilliac Urban Farm and Thieving Otter Farm for being such great friends and for helping me achieve 200 followers- and welcome to any new followers- I hope y'all enjoy what we share!

My sale pens are getting full! I've been lazy about advertising the past couple months because I've been hatching replacement breeders. I've sorted thru a bunch and I now have bulk discount coturnix quail roosters and grab bag hens available (you pick the quantity, I pick the hens- will be multiple variety). All 5-14 weeks old, perfect for freezer or egg layers or to even get your own jump start on spring breeders. Adding different varieties each week to the pens. Please message for details. Local pickup (Central Texas) only.

Apparently the mushrooms here in Central Texas didn't get the memo that it's cold, my puffballs are going crazy. I will let these ones blow and reculture the area. We do collect some and dry them to use in cooking. Any of you forage for mushrooms?

How many eggs can you carry in one hand? I can carry a dozen bantam with my hand upright, or seven if I'm walking normally with my hands down, or 19 quail eggs upright lol. I never remember to bring a bucket 😉 any more than that and I resort to using my shirt 🤣
