Hello Friends! Join us this Friday for opening day, Westcliffe Farmers Market! 🥳

We’ll have a nice selection of Lettuces, Kale, a little Collard and a little Chard…and Microgreens, of course 🌱🌱 😀

We also have some lovely plant starts for you 🪴 …flowers like Snapdragons and lovely blue Cornflower for mid-summer bloom…and in partnership with our friends Al and Simone (you guys are awesome!)…remember how we had wonderful “Guest Tomatoes” last season? This Friday we’ll have Guest Tomato Starts, too! 😊

PS - Early-season production’s always a little modest, but we’ll make sure we have at least a few morsels in the cooler Sunflower Natural Foods if you can’t make the market

Cucumbers are in the ground! …building them a trellis system this weekend 😁

It’s been rather nuts here, between construction and getting ready for market, but we’re looking forward to the season, and we hope to see you all soon!

Exciting Update! We have new cooler space at Sunflower Natural Foods!!! 🥳

Our friends at Jamber Acres have a beautiful new cooler, stuffed full of lettuces and other wonderful produce (check it out). We’re excited for you guys!

…and we’re excited and grateful to have a new spot in the back cooler, just past the eggs! We’ll be able to offer our full Microgreen lineup, alongside an expanded offering of “big greens” and other good morsels 🌱🌱🌱

We’re excited for the summer season, and we truly appreciate your awesome support 😊

Hello Friends!
Spring is here, we’re gearing up for market, and we’re making progress w/ new Greenhouse! 🥳

Rainy today, but sunny earlier this week...even the ground-cover's perking up…and look what we found at the build site 😃

We’re making slow and steady progress with the little greenhouse! Sounds silly, but we finally got a proper door hung...it's been busy 🙃 ...and it's officially open for business! Tomatoes are in the ground (!), newest Kales are happy, and so far so good for a few more Turnips 😎

The Constellation is gearing up for the summer season, and we’re excited (and honored) to be gearing up alongside them. Finally got to enjoy dinner-for-two (yay!), all around wonderful 😊

We’re working on logistics to make market days smoother and more efficient…we got a trailer! 🥳 (And there's a story to go with that...best told over a piping hot cup of coffee)

Back at the nursery, High Mowing's "Lively Yellow Peppers" have sprouted...and both the Snapdragons and the Cucumbers are all sorts of happy...which makes us happy 😊

Exciting things afoot at Sunflower Natural Foods! Our produce is getting a new home! 🥳

Steve’s been hard at work rearranging shelving and displays, and among the cool things to come, we’ll have a new spot…to be announced…and in the meantime, we’ve got a temporary perch atop the soda cooler 😎

Thank you for the awesome support! Happy to see the lettuces are finding good homes 😊

We got some really good moisture this week, too, and the mountainside glades are really greening up... Hope you all have a good weekend!

Morning guys!
Micro restock, Beautiful Lettuces, Kale in bloom 🥳

Hard to believe another week’s gone by…

Broccoli starts, Kale starts, and flower all looking good in the office-nursery 😀 The Cucumbers are going gang-busters and the Peppers just sprouted!

While still modest, we’re really excited about the recent Lettuce harvest 😊 We just stocked a few more bags at Sunflower Natural Foods, including lovely heads of Rouge d’Hiver, New Red Fire, and Red Saladbowl, check them out!

We’re gearing up for market season! We’d love to see you at Westcliffe Farmers Market, Fridays 9am-1pm starting 6/5

Hello Friends!
Remember those turnips? We're delighted, they're awesome! Bonanza crop of Sunnies, too 🌱 🥳

We just restocked Sunflower, and have a couple bunches of beautiful Tokyo Market Turnips available in the fridge…tender and sweet, with lovely greens, just like Ahavah Farm, LLC turnips 😊 Check them out!

The Broccoli and Kohlrabi micros needed a little more time this week, but they do taste good. Both now stocked (and thank you for your patience!)

We just sowed some Italian Yellow Peppers, and three varieties of Cucumber…excited for the expansion this year! We’ve got some bigger broccolis on the way, too 😎

Making progress on “Greenhouse Lite”… the plastic is up, we’ve detailed proper windows for ventilation…we’ll hang a door next, put up shade cloth, and lol we couldn't wait...we already have kale starts and turnip seed in the ground 😅

We’ve been diggin’ the weather, much needed moisture last Wed, cool and fresh since…

Hello Friends!
Progress on planting, beautiful Lettuces / Turnips, and beautiful Spring weather! 🥰

Wow, what a difference some moisture makes…after Thursday’s all-day snow (which amounted to a full inch of precip here in Silver Cliff town), we had cool, fresh, sunny blue weather…high of 61F, and it was simply wonderful 😊

Today we planted a flat of broccolis (big ones!), and another flat of flowers. Tomorrow we’re going to transplant a flat of kales and sow more. In the meantime, our oldest helped water the lettuces 🥳

“Greenhouse Lite” is coming along, foot boards and hip-board bolted in today, end-caps and plastic planned for tomorrow!

Years ago, Brother Yosef cheerfully prodded us to try a turnip…after occasional forays with bitter store-bought turnips, he got the side-eye 😁 …but wow! Turnips lovingly grown in awesome soil were sweet and tender! Who knew! We’re pretty darn excited, we just got our first crop of “Tokyo Market Turnips”, more soon!

New for us at Sunflower Natural Foods - if you flip a tin of micros over now, you’ll notice a snazzy blue barcode 😎 We’ve been working with Steve to improve efficiency (easier record-keeping, faster transactions)…and it wasn’t as bad as we first thought 🙃 Same price, same great micros, and if any fellow vendors would like deets, happy to share!

Man we’re tired…but happy…got a lot done… 3 new beds dug, two flats of starts in the ground, and fresh micros! 🥳

We’re currently small enough (re: size of beds, size of greenhouse) it doesn’t make sense to rent equipment…so the beds were hand-dug with a turf-spade…and the ground in Silver Cliff is rocky and well-packed… 😅

…Thank you Jamber Acres for the referral, made a run down to Stoner’s Rock Block and brought back a prize…a full yard of beautiful compost ….in the Honda Pilot, lol 😎

…our new screen-table helped a lot, we took the rocky native soil and ran it through, at least half a yard of soft (dry!) dirt to blend in with the compost…

…3 new beds ready (yay!), we turned part of another, and we got starts in the ground! …Cabbages, Collard, Kale, and Chard all went in Friday evening ...also warmed the heart, kids got to help with the planting 😊

We’re a little short on Radish microgreens this week (a certain wonderful customer bought a whole bunch), but we’ll sow more shortly, Broccolis are in the fridge already, and we’re harvesting the rest Monday 🌱

Meanwhile, out on the valley floor it’s been super dry (today excepted)…and yet, look how happy this dandelion is!

Family’s in town, construction went well last week, hope you all have a good week!

Weekend update :) Harvested micros / restocked Sunflower, Constellation was hoppin’ last night, and we’ll be at Westcliffe Farmers Market this summer! 🥳

It’ll be all hands on deck for harvest days, and we’re looking forward to seeing many of you in person again 😃 WFM’s back at Jess Price Park and runs every Friday this summer, 6/5 through 9/25 :) We’ll be up in the plaza, too!

Radish micros were a little light on yield this week, more at month-end. Sunflower-shoot yields were generous, we’ll have a few extra tins in the meantime…Sandi reports they go very nicely with Jamber Acres Claytonia 😊

Greenhouse-Cornflowers (Bachelor Button) are starting to bloom!

Thank you Brandon and Sheila for the extra tomato starts! You guys rock! Lol, now if it’d just stop dropping to 20F overnight…

Ever wonder what happens to the trays once the micros are harvested? Several things occur: Soil + roots + ungerminated seed gets dumped out back…to the chickens’ great delight…then we scrub and wash each tray (no kidding), and as soon as we gain an inch of free coutertop we rotate the next batch of micros right in behind ‘em 😎 Bok-bok-bok-bok-bok...

Check out how tiny and delicate a Snapdragon is when it’s first sprouting! This is our first time planting them, we had no idea 🙃
