Today, we celebrate the hardworking men and women who keep Maryland growing. Agriculture remains the powerhouse of our state's economy, generating over $30 billion in annual activity and supporting a workforce of 350,000 people across the entire value chain.
Our farmers aren't just economic leaders; they are dedicated environmental stewards. Maryland leads the nation in land preservation, having already surpassed its "30 by 30" goal by conserving 30% of its land, more than 1.85 million acres, six years ahead of schedule.
From making historic strides in Chesapeake Bay restoration through sustainable practices to expanding oyster aquaculture, Maryland’s agricultural community continues to find new ways to protect our natural resources while providing for our future.

According to the most recent data from the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service - Maryland Field Office, the Governor’s so-called “meatless” concept would hit counties like Washington, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett, Kent, and Harford especially hard.

I wish I could say I’m surprised this policy would damage the same communities the Governor has repeatedly tried to sideline during his tenure, but at this point, I’m not.
