Life has a way of bursting your bubble!

Yesterday we had such a high. Both of our foster dogs, Margarita & Finnick, got adopted by 2 different families!! Then we went to pick up turkeys for our friend Pam. While there, I got 13 turkens, Nick got 2 tufted ducks and we got 4 Narragansett turkeys. I just love turkens and we’ve been missing ours. (Post to come of those guys later).

We got home, put all the birds away in their pens. We took Pam’s birds down to her. Came back and started feeding everyone. Then, Nick calls out to me, we need to go to New Bolton!

This time, Ghost Face Killer was laying down & not moving. His famacha was pale and his tongue was pale. Off we went again to PA!

We got 1 hr into the 2.5-3 hr trip and his eyes started going back into his head. I knew what was happening. He had been on my lap the whole time and I was petting, talking and loving on him. He died in my arms.

We made the decision to still go up to NBC so they can do a necropsy and the students can learn from him and with him. I didn’t want to bury another baby on the farm. When we got there, as I was holding him against me and crying, I didn’t want to let him go.

This side of farming animals just completely sucks! I want to scream, fight and curse! I want to cry and cry and hide in our bed. But atlas, we can’t! We have so many other animals depending on us.

These animals are our babies! We don’t have kids. These guys are our kids! We love each of them so much. The loss is unbearable and rips our hearts out. We try our best to get them help and meds but goats hide illness until it’s about to take them.

I say this for others. If you’re thinking about getting goats and other animals. There is a hard, dark side that will challenge you, depress you and break you. BUT, the reward is like no other! The love they give you is beyond words.

After Ghost Face Killer passed, a rainbow showed up! That took our breath away. God’s with us. We may not know why these babies die but I have faith we will see them again!! Ghost Face Killer is with his sister, The Joker, now; hopefully happy and no sickness or pain.

We took an emergency trip to New Bolton Center yesterday with Blackbeard. We got home around 1 and he was laying down and not moving. Thinking it was parasites, we headed up! I held him the whole way, lived on him and talked to him. He made it up there and will be there for a little while.

His sugar wouldn’t even register. He’s hypoglycemic. They’re going to see what’s going on. His liver function is t the best either.

Please keep him in Your prayers!

He did make sure to p*e on mommy on the way up lol

We welcomed some new birds to the farm this past week. We have 2 button quails, Gump the turkey, 6 guineas & 6 geese. The geese and guineas have taken up with our birds and follow each other around. Gump is a sweet boy! He’s loves Nick! He follows us around and lets Nick pet and love on him! 🩷🩷

This is such a hard post to make.

Last Thursday we lost Benny the Turkey. He was fine in the morning. I talk to all the babies when I leave for work. When we went to feed, he had passed away. We’re thinking it was the extreme heat we experienced.

Then last Friday, I went to feed and we lost Paisley the Pig. Again, we’re thinking it was the extreme heat. She was fine the night before with feeding. I was in with her giving her loves and talking to her. We “talked” every night 🩷 She loved her food and water hole. She also enjoyed the chickens going in her pen with her.

This is so hard!! We love having the animals and the farm but this is the heart breaking side!! 😢😢😢 It’s never easy losing an animal. I’m still heart broken over these 2 babies. It’s hard not seeing them everyday!

Rest in peace Benny and Paisley!! We love you guys and miss you so much! ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

We worked on the quail setup on Sunday. Bless Nick’s heart, he’s not been feeling well for about 2 months. But we were able to work in the farm last weekend.

I’m in love with these quails! I pet them every day! We had 2 that got picked on inside while they were in their cage. They got separated from the others. I thought the others had pecked their eyes out! I put a spray on their wounds and they’ve been healing!! And one got picked on and hair pulled out on the top of its head. It was got sprayed with a poultry healing spray and he’s looking so much better! 🩷🩷
