Life has a way of bursting your bubble!
Yesterday we had such a high. Both of our foster dogs, Margarita & Finnick, got adopted by 2 different families!! Then we went to pick up turkeys for our friend Pam. While there, I got 13 turkens, Nick got 2 tufted ducks and we got 4 Narragansett turkeys. I just love turkens and we’ve been missing ours. (Post to come of those guys later).
We got home, put all the birds away in their pens. We took Pam’s birds down to her. Came back and started feeding everyone. Then, Nick calls out to me, we need to go to New Bolton!
This time, Ghost Face Killer was laying down & not moving. His famacha was pale and his tongue was pale. Off we went again to PA!
We got 1 hr into the 2.5-3 hr trip and his eyes started going back into his head. I knew what was happening. He had been on my lap the whole time and I was petting, talking and loving on him. He died in my arms.
We made the decision to still go up to NBC so they can do a necropsy and the students can learn from him and with him. I didn’t want to bury another baby on the farm. When we got there, as I was holding him against me and crying, I didn’t want to let him go.
This side of farming animals just completely sucks! I want to scream, fight and curse! I want to cry and cry and hide in our bed. But atlas, we can’t! We have so many other animals depending on us.
These animals are our babies! We don’t have kids. These guys are our kids! We love each of them so much. The loss is unbearable and rips our hearts out. We try our best to get them help and meds but goats hide illness until it’s about to take them.
I say this for others. If you’re thinking about getting goats and other animals. There is a hard, dark side that will challenge you, depress you and break you. BUT, the reward is like no other! The love they give you is beyond words.
After Ghost Face Killer passed, a rainbow showed up! That took our breath away. God’s with us. We may not know why these babies die but I have faith we will see them again!! Ghost Face Killer is with his sister, The Joker, now; hopefully happy and no sickness or pain.
