Ortman Natural Beef

Forage is a very important part of our cattle operation, whether that is through grazing or harvesting hay. In this case we are cutting some wheat that was planted last fall and baling it with a high moisture content. Baling and wrapping forage “wet” will allow it to become more nutritious through fermentation. These bales will be fed later this winter when the grass is no longer growing.

Today we celebrate the first heavenly birthday of our founder, Benjamin Ortman.

Benji lived and breathed farming all 51 years of his life, with a particular passion for his cattle. When faced with a cancer diagnosis in 2019, he was determined to not let that stop him from doing what he loved. For six years he fought this battle, continuing to farm through major surgery, chemo, trial treatments, and much more. We like to say he never took a day off, as not a day went by where the farm was not on his mind or the topic of conversation.

Farming was never just a job for Benji. It was his life, his God-given purpose, and his legacy. He now rests with the Savior he loved so dearly, and we have been passed the torch. As we carry on his legacy, we want people to know that the man behind Ortman Natural Beef was and always will be our beloved Benji Ortman.

Welcome to Ortman Natural Beef!

Our Founders:
Benjamin and Darla Ortman founded Ortman Natural Beef in 2008 with the dream of bringing high quality beef to their community and beyond. With four small children, their faith in God, and a passion for cattle, they built their herd and business to where we are today.

Our Product:
We raise Certified Natural Beef with no hormones or antibiotics. We raise Angus and Angus/Simmental cross cattle. Our cattle are born and raised on pasture before being finished on grain and silage (whole corn plant chopped). For processing we primarily use Greensburg Locker located in Greensburg, Indiana. We sell our beef in whole, halves, and quarters.
