When I said my goals for 2026 were darker shades and more speckles....this is exactly what I meant!

This is a new layer from spring. I was curious if the egg shell inside would be white or blue.

Congrats! Its a boy lol 💙😆

Did you know that eggs can technically only be one of two colors, white or blue? ALL other color is just the pigment that each hen puts on the egg as it is being made.

I got an egg the other day I want to talk about.

I have seen some people post these eggs as heavy bloomed. However they are actually not that at all.

This happens when a hen holds her egg in instead of laying it and it gets pushed up against another egg.

This is usually due to some sort of stress. Predator, heat, molt...there are lots of possibilities.

I call these eggs "stress eggs" but I believe they are technically called "white banded".

I have noticed they are almost always laid randomly somewhere on the ground instead of in a nesting box.

These eggs are not usually able to be hatched. I have never heard of anyone hatching one successfully. In fact, its been quite the opposite. I won't be trying to hatch this one but it does make for a really cool looking egg!
