Status:
Flowering. Only a handful of blooms open along the spike.

Mullein stands like sentries on our farm, at the garden gates, along the walking paths, wherever one season seems to give way to the next. Only a few flowers open each day. The rest wait their turn.

THE YEAR OF MUGWORT

There is another way to make things.

Not by chasing the next ingredient or the next season, but by staying with one plant long enough for a relationship to emerge.

This year I stopped trying to collect everything.

Instead, I spent a season following Artemisia vulgaris—watching where it grows, how it changes, what old herbals remembered, and what the plant was still willing to teach.

That attention became field notes.

Plant portraits.

Soap.

Essays.

Experiments.

The Winter Box is simply where those threads meet.

Not a collection of products, but the record of a season spent with one plant.

An ongoing archive documenting relationships between people and plants.

Some entries become essays.

Some remain only field notes.

Every entry begins the same way:

Someone notices.

A leaf picked up on a walk.

A seedpod carried home in a pocket.

A roadside w**d that refused to be overlooked.

A flower remembered long after its season had ended.

Over time, those moments accumulated into an archive.
