Let the Good Times Grow
Our stories are ever-evolving. My name is Heidi Marcinik. Presently, I am convinced that life directions choose me for whatever greater purpose is there to behold. This venture into being a farmer’s apprentice through K-State’s Growing Growers programme via the Sedgwick County Extension Center simply fell in my lap. My lap was ready for the catch.
The symbiotic connection I made with Kirkpatrick Family Farm was the clear choice in direction. Ryan Kirkpatrick agreed to be my mentor and we’ve been having a fun time planning out the upcoming 2019 growing season. He is an awesome teacher — just what I need! What I learn from his urban farm will be applied at my little practice urban farm, but with a permaculture twist.
I’ve always had an interest in the permaculture processes of growing food sustainably and how such a design extends beyond food production to caring for our community and environment. Back in the late 90s, I started learning about permaculture from Tom both here in Kansas and during a stay in Guatemala. I was smitten with the concept and values. Designing systems that operate within natural systems feels harmonic and wise. But, it’s a process to behold and will be part of an on-going story that is clearly being written by a greater author.
