Pretty cool!! We have collared some of our herd and are excited for what this means in freeing up hours of the day for other important projects. Pretty slick to have this as an opportunity in ranching.
Many of us have been to New Zealand and came across collared cattle, same in secluded parts of Utah. Helps is so many ways, range management being the priority. We can now get the herd to congregate and graze parts that aren’t AS appetizing as some of the other growth around the ranch. BUT utilizing these collars, we can get that older grass grazed and that encourages new growth - much tastier!
Did you know a native grass plant can stay standing for around 60 years? No growth, no root activity bringing in carbon, just existing. If we can encourage new growth (plus rain, but there’s nothing we can do about that) the plant can expand and maintain nutrition for the grazing animals.
