So I promised I’d give a sheep post so here ya go! I purchased my sheep from a wonderful sheep farm in Elberton, Georgia. Jean and her hubs were wonderful with explaining so much, even down to how to pet lambs properly! We’ll be adding two 2 mo old babies and a ram next month and attempting to breed our lambs in November for February babies!

Facts about our lambs:
- We have two Ewes (Ewes are the name for female lambs)
- they are 8 months old now, got them at 3 months ish
- one we named Spot (our friendly girlie) & Skidd (our skittish young lady)
- they become weathers once they become a year old. We can breed them then.
- lambs love rubs but more on the chin, and behind ears as rubbing on the top of their head makes them feel challenged.
- you want to separate the rams from the ewes, especially while young.
- lamb/sheep need to be checked (butt area) for fly strike. Which can be fatal.
- when purchasing and adding sheep to your farm you want to get breeds that are parasite resistant & heat tolerant.
- our lambs are Tunisian x gulf coast mix.
- sheep facial memory is amazing!
- sheep actually have deep feelings are very emotional!
- they don’t like being alone and stress when alone! Very flocky if you know what I mean!

We’ll be posting a more in depth video on YouTube. Subscribe to our YouTube to see more in depth content. 😏🌱

On May 6th, 2026, Kemp signed and approved bill SB 551 which now allows small farmers and backyardigan egg sellers to sell and distribute eggs without the egg candling process. Yes life is important but is it safe? Things that make you go hmmm…. Funny enough I got my egg candling license days before and drove 2 hours to get it. But either way it opens the door for new farmers and not be negative but it also raises some safety and quality issues. IYKYK eggs have three grades: A, AA & B! Do you all want a break down and a video on me candling eggs?

Work with nature instead of against it, the soil, the weather, and the moon phases matter more than you can imagine!

Some of the old farming traditions actually work.

This May we’re focusing on:

Above-ground crops
Root vegetables
W**d management
Rest days for the soil
Keep these dates in mind for May!
Do you plant by the moon or follow any old gardening traditions?

ZONE 8B growers, this is your sign to start planting!

May is one of the best times to get warm season crops established while the soil temperatures are rising and the days are getting longer.

Here’s a few fruit & veggies that grow well right now in Zone 8B:

Tomatoes
Peppers
Cucumbers
Corn
Melons
Basil & herbs
Sunflowers & zinnias

A lot of people think they’re “late” to plant in May… but for many summer crops, you’re right on time.

The key is:
Warm soil
Consistent watering
Good sunlight
Healthy spacing

Start with a few things and learn as you grow.

SAVE THIS for your planting list!

Most people don’t realize this until it’s too late but how you water matters just as much as how often.

We used to water everything from the top until we started seeing disease, leaf mold, weak plants, and wasted water.

Now?

We water the roots, not the leaves, and noticed a huge difference a few years ago.

If you’re growing:

tomatoes
peppers
cucumbers
herbs
strawberries

Keep those leaves dry and your plants will thank you.

We’re still learning every day out here, but this one is a game changer, especially when you’re trying to grow in tough conditions like we are.

Drop a 🌱 if you’re planting this season or tell me what you’re growing!
