The cucumbers have officially taken over! Well they did weeks ago 😂

A few have asked about vegetables…in the past we have had box/es out with veggies available for people to take when you pick up eggs.
Well this year cucumber vines have taken over at least a fourth of our garden. Vines have covered many of our plants - tomato, cherry tomato, broccoli, carrots, peppers, and more…
Photos do not do this justice, this is over a 10’x15’ area completely covered with cucumber vines.
Do we have cucumbers? Umm if we can find them and get to them. It’s almost impossible to reach, or see, most of them.

I planted 2 seeds.

The vines went crazy, and un noticed, during fair craziness otherwise I would have just ripped some of the overgrown areas out/off.

But this is the reason we have not had our veggie boxes out this year…because the garden is a cucumber jungle.

I am hoping that I uncovered enough tomato plants, early enough, for some late summer or early fall tomatoes!

I try to get something done in the pasture but I forgot I owned Charlotte 🤣 she wasn’t consulted ahead of time so she definitely needed to be involved every step of the way.

Charlotte does not understand personal space and would prefer to snuggle up next to someone (she will try to sit in your lap). She loves to have her head scratched, and has never turned down a treat…even if it’s just you picking grass and feeding it to her…
Really she just wants three or four humans doting on her at all times.

Welcome to the homestead. These girls will be called Libby and Evelyn.
Excited to add these ewes to our small flock and for, hopefully, more lambs next spring. I honestly don’t remember which is which as Libby and Evelyn are not their registered names, just what we will call them…but one is 2yrs and one is a yearling so both are old enough to breed this fall.

Had a brief moment of panic tonight! Walked by Emily’s silkies and Effie looked like she was wet and bloody. Then I noticed they all looked wet! I was so confused, panicked, worried…then I remembered Emily had given them watermelon scraps earlier this evening. That’s when I noticed the remnants of said watermelon scraps….

We have some chickens available, most were part of fair projects and we just can’t keep them all. Message with interest.
3 New Hampshire Reds (6 months)
2 Buff Orpington (18 months)
A silkie rooster or two (12 months)
A pair of Bantam Blue Cochins (6 months)

Possibly a few other pullets from mid February hatches.

When you open the front door and this crew comes running. I have about 10-12 chickens, who have been around the longest and equate the front door opening to treats. I did find them some overgrown cucumbers in the garden because I couldn’t disappoint 🤣

Pretty eggs, sheep grazing (I took this picture because I couldn’t immediately identify Millie from her skinny post nursing body, she is filling out well.), and some of the silkie eggs that went into incubator 😬🤣

We had a great 2026 county fair! We are definitely all still recovering and catching up on some sleep.
Emily, and Lucy, did well at the dog show and Emily took home two reserve champion ribbons in poultry show. One of our Blue Cochin Bantam hens, and a French Wheaten Maran hen earned her reserve ribbons. I also realized I didn’t take many pictures….the boys also showed chickens and earned blue ribbons.
Our sheep stayed home this year, I will be looking into the heritage barn for next year. The heritage barn would be a great place for people to see them, and educate them on what a wonderful heritage breed they are.

Silkies had their spa day yesterday, Lucy the Aussie had hers today. We have packed up what we can ahead of time, lists have been made…Fair 2026 here we come!
Silkies get washed and then dried with a livestock blower (with heat) to get them dry quicker. They actually enjoy the warm blower and will do their silkie purr.

Our sheep are not going this year, we decided to scale back some this year. I think Emily would like to show some of our lambs next year though. We will see what the future brings.

Went to wash eggs this morning and something caught my eye! Love when you see in the egg basket what you have been working towards! Dark brown and speckled ❤️ also the picture doesn’t give them justice…and the bloom…it made them look almost a deep purple.
