It is hard to decide what's for dinner this week when everything looks sooooo good. Check out the marbling on these steaks... I can't say I've ever seen a Flank Steak look so good. And how about those short ribs... comfort food at its finest.

Is the Beef Checkoff Program a $2 Billion Flop? Time to Demand Answers!

Friends, let’s talk about something that’s hitting our ranchers hard. Dr. Shawn Baker, a well-known advocate for the carnivore diet, just called out U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins on a major issue: the Beef Checkoff program. Since 1985, this USDA-run initiative has collected over $2 billion from a $1-per-head tax on cattle sales. The goal? Boost beef consumption and support ranchers. But here’s the shocking reality:Beef consumption has dropped 25%—from 77 pounds per person in 1985 to just 58 pounds in 2024.
Nearly 30% of ranchers are gone, with numbers falling from about 1 million operations in the early 1980s to 714,000 by 2022.
Meanwhile, the program’s “economic impact” claims a $13.41 return per dollar invested, yet ranchers are struggling, and big producers seem to benefit most.

So why are we still pouring money into a system that’s failing our farmers? Critics say it’s bloated with bureaucracy, can’t compete with cheaper poultry, and hasn’t adapted to changing health trends.
