Operating as usual

Eggplants are here!
First bell pepper harvest
Who doesn't love cherry tomatoes?? Jace!
Won't be long!
Super Sweet 100's are lining up!
This fabulous head of cabbage came from my father's garden yesterday. He always taught us that if you could fish and grow vegetables, you would never be hungry. At 87, he is still doing both. This morning he left for an offshore fishing trip with his son and grandson. Hook a big one Pop!
I came across this baby box turtle crossing the garden path this morning. Not much bigger than a sugar snap!
Tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants are coming along. Can't wait for these summer crops!
Shiitakes are back
Beets never got big this year, but these greens were great sauteed up Asian style with shiitakes.
Alex and I were excited to be farmer guests at the Feast Down East Barn Raiser event last night at the arboretum. Exquisite local food and beverages, lovely venue, and perfect weather! Great way to launch the summer.
Red new potatoes fresh from Mother Earth
It'll be a while but this is a hopeful sign!
On a less hopeful note, the bees swarmed this morning and so we've likely lost half the hive. Never count your honey til it's harvested! 🐝😟
It's getting crowded in the hive. These are some busy bees!
Sugar snaps are here!

Anna's Acre supporters old and new, we have some changes to share with you. We will no longer be selling our products at the farmer's market on Saturday morning, so our apologies if you have driven by looking for us! We are now selling direct from the farm and online through Down East Connect/Farmzie (see details below).
For direct farm sales, just call Alex (910-617-9491) and place your order by 5 PM on Friday afternoon and we will deliver for FREE in the Wilmington area (for orders of $10 or more) the following Saturday. You can also come by on Saturday morning (8:00-noon) or call Alex anytime during the week.
Online sales: We have partnered with Down East Connect for the past several years, and they have just switched to a platform called Farmzie, a new app that we believe will change the way small farmers connect with customers. If you are interested in supporting not only Anna's Acre, but other local farms and providers, you can register with Farmzie and select Down East Connect as your preference. If you order through Farmzie, you'll pay a small convenience fee that helps the farmers but you will be able to pick up all of your produce at a regular pick-up place each week. For more info, go to Farmzie.com.
Even if you don't want to shop through Farmzie, you can log in to see what we have for sale each week. I'll also post updates here.
Thank you for your past and continued support of Anna's Acre. Check back soon for a list of current offerings.
We now have salad mix and coming soon: sugar snaps and tomato plants. This summertime weather gave everything a big boost!
It's springtime at Anna's Acre! Alex has been busy for months planting and nurturing these early crops. Salad mix is coming soon!
Happy New Year! Thanks to everyone who supported Anna's Acre this year: family and friends, Facebook fans, farmer's market customers, Down East Connect staff and customers, restaurant owners & chefs, the YWCA youth program, and everyone else who helped make our second year in business a successful one! We are so grateful to each of you! In 2016 look for some new offerings, including cut flowers. We wish you all a peaceful and prosperous new year!

On Dec. 3 the YWCA's afterschool program 4-H Club came to Anna's Acre. They helped prepare some garden beds for winter, planted a cover crop, fed the chickens, and learned about compost, shiitake mushrooms, and bees. They were such hard-working and enthusiastic helpers. You can see for yourself how adorable they are! Thanks to Sarah Flaherty, Childcare Director at the YWCA for organizing. And a big thank you also to Owen, Nancy, and Julio for sharing these future farmers with us for an afternoon. We loved having them!

Happy Halloween from Anna's Acre! Today is our last market of the year. Come by and say hello, anytime between 7:30 and noon.
Our friend and loyal customer, John, cross-stitched these covers for the jars of pickled okra he bought for Christmas gifts. We love it! Come and do some early shopping for the holidays this Saturday, our last market day of the season. We will have pickled green tomatoes, hot pepper jelly, hot pepper vinegar, Gena's Green jalapeno hot sauce, and maybe HONEY! We'll also have okra, salad mix, hot peppers, fresh basil, homemade bread, and vegan pumpkin muffins.
This morning we are sampling hot pepper jelly with Greek yogurt cream cheese.
Throw away those stale bay leaves in your spice cabinet and get some fresh, aromatic ones from Anna's Acre in the morning. They will be great in your crock-pot creations this fall. We will also have radishes, salad mix, cayenne and jalapeno peppers, hot pepper jelly, pickled green tomatoes, homemade bread, vegan pumpkin muffins, and fresh eggs. Come by anytime between 8 am and noon: Park Ave, across from the entrance to Empie Park and beside O2 Fitness behind Hanover Center.
Lovely morning at the market
Happy Fall! Tomorrow morning at the market we will have boquets of Mexican sunflowers, fresh basil and bunches of crisp radishes. Also okra, green tomatoes, cayenne and jalapeno peppers, fresh oregano, homemade bread, pumpkin muffins, pickled green tomatoes, and hot pepper jelly. I'm putting fresh basil & oregano on a homemade pizza tonight!
