Just a girl and the fluffy cow who helped make it possible for her to be here. Seeing them together sometimes makes me very emotional. Months of 14 hour days doing photoshoots and cuddle sessions. Meeting hundreds of people. Some knew why others just wanted to love on our fluffy girl. Some made us baby blankets or told stories of their own infertility battles. Two news stations shared our story. So many people reached out going through their own struggles. One sweet fluffy cow made so much possible. I am forever grateful to everyone who was apart of that journey.

So after yesterday I figured it was better to get the sad news out of the way. Roxie is not pregnant. We don’t know if she was pregnant and lost it or if the blood test was faulty. To say we are super bummed is an understatement. I’m also sad for Roxie as I see how much she loves the calves. She guards them while they sleep and even cleans them. The irony is not lost of me that the cow that helped us pay for IVF to have your daughter through photoshoots and cuddle sessions could be infertile. The plan right now is to do a culture of her uterus and to have a repo vet do a full exam. From there we will decide what to do. Either way Roxie isn’t going any where and if her destiny is to be the farm auntie then she will be amazing at it.

Yesterday was one of those days that really highlight that farming is hard. Our sweet Luna girl lost her calf. We knew she was close for a few days and we’re keeping a close eye. Yesterday afternoon David noticed she was off to herself. I walked down and saw a single foot that was upside down. I immediately knew we would need to intervene. I am so thankful to my dear friend who came to watch Arabella and our neighbor and friend who helped us get her in the chute. I was able to feel and realized the calf was coming back legs first. After getting the chains on I was unable to pull it. Thankfully David was able to with a lot of effort. Sadly while the calf was born with a heart beat we were never able to get him to take a breath. After working on him for a long time, even doing respirations, we realized we had lost him. He was a beautiful solid black bull calf. After talking to the vet he said that is very common in reverse presentation births. Luna is doing ok physically but is still calling for her calf which is so heartbreaking. Lessons were learned and we are so grateful for our village that comes without hesitation when we call.
