The dark period is over! We are pleased to announce we are offering our farm fresh eggs at $3.00 a dozen again this year! We have browns, blues, pink, and green eggs! No white eggs this year sadly as we lost both our leghorns.

We are pleased to announce we will have duck eggs! These will be $5.00 a half dozen and will be black/grey/cream colored! I'll post when we start getting those!

We are not increasing our egg price to deal with inflation! I will eat the increase in grain cost so I can offer the same healthy eggs at the same price.

We may also be offering chicks this spring. They will be $3-4 per chick, unsexed. They will be barnyard mixes as our rooster is an Olive Egger and we have hens of various breeds.

I finally did it. Almost 3 years since Dexter passed, we are picking up our new livestock guardian dog, another male Pyrenees, tomorrow morning. Though he will NEVER take Dexter's place in my heart, he may help heal it from losing my big head. New guy on the left, Dexter on the right.

If you love eggs, you will really appreciate this post!

Duck Eggs vs Chicken Eggs 🍳

Duck eggs are larger in size than chicken eggs. The whites in chicken eggs have a higher water content (more runny) than the whites in duck eggs. Duck eggs have larger yolks and a higher yolk-to-white-ratio than chicken eggs.

We have both. Yes, they are different from eachother so I am gunna break it down quick:

🦆 Duck eggs are GREAT for baking

🐓 Chicken eggs have thinner shells

🦆 Duck eggs are larger and richer than 🐓 eggs

🐓 Chickens are prolific layers year around if taken care of correctly but 🦆 ducks are as well with much less light necessity

🦆 Duck eggs stay fresh longer because of their insanely thick shell

🦆 Duck eggs contain 30% more protein, and a different type of protein that 🐓 chicken eggs so if allergic to chicken eggs, most can eat duck and visa versa.

Ounce for ounce, 🦆 duck eggs contain more Omega-3, Vitamins A and D, fatty acids, choline, folate, and iron than 🐓 chicken eggs.

🐓 Chickens lay well for about 1-2 years then dramatically start slowing down production while 🦆 ducks lay a solid 4-5 years before they slow down

🐓 Chicken eggs come in a lot more colors

So there ya have it!

I completely forgot to intro the farm dogs! We have Teddy (blue brindle), Rocky (tan brindle), and Sasha and Riot. Rocky, Sasha, and riot are rescues so please excuse their appearance. They are infested with worms, a problem which is currently being treated. Rocky also had an injury to his back leg, luckily not a break but he is on kennel rest with light excerise until its healed. Teddy of course has been with us for years and a total beefcake.

Rocky is a natural farm dog and loves the chickens. Even the mean old rooster Rex.

7 so far this morning. The new run is being delivered today! Hopefully we will be able to get it up today or tomorrow! The duck run is in my cart, ready to be ordered too. Ducklings are already getting there adult plumage in, so they will be outside here in a couple of weeks. Chicks are nearly ready to upgrade to the big brooder. So far we are at 2 cockerels, one of which we wanted, the other needed.
